I have been doing alot of research on the 232 lately. My heart is sinking fast about the dial color. Why you ask? I have already pulled the trigger on the davidsen 232 with black dial. Well here is the problem, I cannot find one example of a black dial 232 thats right not even one!!! Yes, I have seen pics of what appears to be black dial 232's but i am not convinced. I believe it's just light playing tricks on the eye. Here are 4 example sales on Ebay and guess what? You guessed it!! They all have tabaco brown dials. Why can't we convince the dealers here about this dial??

Example 1

Example 2

Example 3

Example 4

Someone please convince me once and for all that a black dial exists!! Please don't show me a pic because pics lie!

Hi Dawg,

I compared my 232 with the gen in an AD (discreetly) and it is tobacco brown for sure. The difference is subtle but it is there if you look closely. The rep is a smoky black so it makes it passable, but it should be brown to if it is to be a close match to the gen. Still yet it is a beauty of a watch and I love mine, although seeing them side by side, I wish mine was brown. I don't know if that helps. Seems to me that a brown dial should not be that difficult to make.

I continue to wait for Davidsen to release a brown dial 232.

The thing is, even on the Paneristi reference pages, where it properly states that the 232 has a brown dial, the Panerai website pic that they have, clearly shows a black dial. It could be the lighting, it could be a lot of things, but the dial is black. However, there is no genuine black dial 232 and I think alot of confusion has started because of the official Panerai pics that are around.

I imagine that the rep makers use these photos from the OP website and Paneristi, as a guide when constructing the rep prototypes. To me, that explains the mistake, as there does not seem to be any other explanation.

Yes very true. The watch is built from photos. That is where the mistake was made.

@Hambone, I am going to love the watch for sure. I just hope that davidsen will make the correct dial soon so we can have them switched out then we will have a solid rep.

Dawg, all but a couple of the photos look like it has a black dial. Plus there is the picture and description that enzo posted http://replica-watch.info/forum/viewtop ... c&start=15 (second page mid way down.)

Also, what model is the watch on the right in this photo?? Because it looks black too.

I think that the 232 has both a black and a tobacco dial. I mean it is a tribute watch of the vintage model and I believe the older model's face was black. Maybe they decided to make the 232 it's own watch (based on popularity instead of a limited tribute watch) and then shipped it out with a different color dial. I have no proof of this, but it has happened before.I have found phots of each color dial and all are genuine or claim to be.

P.S. Worse case scenario you could take this 47mm case and get a vintage dial and create a vintage model.

That all sounds great but I wish someone could provide proof of this. :?

I have continually seen the 232 as a tobacco dial.... check timezone and every post on it discusses it's brown dial and gold hands...

and from panerai.com itself "Dial: brown with luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers."

Thank you enzo for your reply. I have come to terms with this now. I am going to be satisfied with the black dial for sure. The only problem now is a strap for it :D

BTW, enzo, the other day I was wearing my Fiddy from davidsen and in the sun the smokey black dial almost looked brown. If the 232 has the same color dial that will be very cool.
