My first Pam

Hey guys…I want to get a pam…I’ve never owned one but want to see what all the hype is about. So my question to you guys is what you would consider the best entry level pam. I’d like something that is as close to the gen as possible. Also I would appreciate if you told me which dealer has the best version. I’m open to any of them but the ones I’ve seen that I like are as follows.

Pam 127

Davidsons Black Seal Slytech 5218 218a eventhough I’m not a fan of Sylvester…also I think the crown guard is upside down.

PAM 063 GMT

Pam 253 Regatta flyback

So let’s hear it guys…what’s ur favorite and who carries the best version…

Thanks in advance.

for a starter

i think the 111 and 005 are great. and you may, like many, come full circle once you collect others...i know i did :)

the 127 fiddy may be rather big at 47mm for your entry level pam. but you may like it. i'd generally recommend against it as a starter....and believe me, like potato chips, you can't stop at just one pam.

everytime this question is asked, the consensus seems to the following: 000, 112, 005, 111. the first two are "base" models, meaning no second subdial at the 9 position. the last two have the subsecond dial at the 9 position. all are stainless steel, 44mm, manual wind watches. very well liked because they represent the "signature" historic panerai look (though the 44mm cases came later). you won't be sorry. even if you decide on another watch, you'll end up with one or more of these soon.

belia seems to be offering some quality versions of the above.

my first was a 111 (gen). still my first love after more gens and lots more reps.

Jwizzar,

I'm going to a 005 new dial.

The best one I've ever saw is my PVD 009, love the black ones.

Look for both, Davidsen of course.

Hope have helped you.

Auto movements are very nouveau-Panerai, I believe. To me the 6497 hand wind models seem much more the traditional Panerai. When I think Panerai, I think big watch cases and hand-wound movements (I would kill for a vintage 47mm case and an Angelus or Cortebert movement).

That makes the two of us... wanna start a "Family Business" ?

Any of the watches you are considering would make a great first watch. Each is different in their own right, but all are distinctive Panerai models.

IMO, no one would ever regret ordering a 111h as their first Pam.

Spoil yourself with the 253. I just got mine and I love it. I don't think the swiss version is worth the difference. I have the asian model and when it's on your wrist it is stunning. I am getting a leather strap with blue stitching for it and then it will really rock. Good luck with whatever you choose :D :D

and perhaps favorite love--news ones have come and gone--but the 111 always ends up being my favorite. you can't go wrong with it.

I'm also about to order my first Pams! Sorry to hijack the thread, but I thought I'd save on repeating the subject...

I'm a little confused about all the models and designations though. :?
These are the two that are 'in my cart'... can you Pam gurus advise me;

a) if they look accurate
b) their size
c) if the movt "SWISS UNITAS 6497 unmodified" is good
d) should the watches have the modified swan neck regulator?
e) are these reps fairly tough?

Thanks in advance! :)

I believe that PVD watch with the carbon fiber dial is a fantasy watch, so not very accurate. It's a looker, though.

the titanium one is also a fantasy watch

unless the dial is brown (then it'd be pam 036). if black, then fantasy.

Yep! and Welcome!

I am no PAM expert, but once you get into the strap thingy, you can't stop it either.
Now everytime I get a Pam (a few reps that I own), I always buy a new strap for it...
and it seems to be the case for everyone else here.

I have recently started buying Pam and they grew on me and now it is an addiction. I started with a "modest" size pam. It is a Pam 253 and it's more of a steady step towards Panerai since it has a more modern look to it. My second watch is the Pam 127 because the vintage look grew on me and I wanted a watch that doubles as a dinner plate, haha.
