I bought a couple Germano straps, and decided to try my best at "aging" the leather. To my surprise, I think it turned out pretty good. Lol, next project is the watch!

Here's some pics:

Nice work, JoJo! Care to share your process with the rest of us? Which strap from Germano did that start out as?

Thanks for the compliments!

It started out looking like this:

Lol, like I said this was my first attempt. I found these directions in a thread from Panera:

"Take from calf tan militare strap from gaemano
Soak it with some chemicals
Brush it gently till the some parts be came sueded
Take the patina
Coloured it with the patina
wrapp it up the revers side for giving some wrinkles
Brush it again for making light and dark area
Finally cover it with wax (shoe wax or etc)"

So, as you can read, quite a lot is still left for your imagination!

I substituted bleach for "chemicals" (lol)
Let it sit there for a good twenty minutes, scrubbed it with a stiff toothbrush and (believe it or not) wire brush
Rinsed it with water
Rolled it up, and used a rubber band to hold it like that overnight while it dried.
The next day, while it was still damp, I unrolled it and used the toothbrush to rub it a little further to even out the "patina" (lol)
Let it dry completely
Used beeswax over it. Later discovered "Simoniz" car wax works really good (the old stuff in the yellow can).
Final prep was just a polish like you're shining up your shoes

There you have it, not too difficult!

I'll keep everyone posted on the other strap, and of course the vintage Pam

Ok, I don't want to be an ass, and I don't normally write negative posts, but I'm not seein' how you turned the 1 piece nato strap with sewn in metal loops (notice where the stiching is) into that great looking 2 piece vintaged strap. Did I miss something? I understand you could cut it, but what about the sewn in buckle and loops? It was a long piece of leather maybe you cut it and forgot to mention the stiching you did also. Just wondering. Set me straight.

This was just an example of the color before it was aged. Sorry I forgot to take pictures of the strap for you before I did the work on it

No worries! PM me if you need any help. Like I said I had no idea it would come out as good as it did, otherwise I would have taken more pics. When I do the Nato strap this week I'll take some before/during/after pics so everyone could benefit.
