I got this Fiddy from Davidsen just a month ago and this morning it died. I was quite surprised and thought it was due to the new 6497-1 movment that Ziggy so expertly pointed out . Well, after simply winding the crown backwards, it began ticking again and made my day considerably better. Has this happened to anyone else? I wonder if it will again?

Thanks for that advice.

I have not yet had any trouble with that mechanism, but if I have a similar problem occur, then I will try out your suggested remedy.

Hope it continues to run well.

I had the same problem before. Instead of winding backwards, I tapped the watch
with my hand... out of frustration  and it came back to life. haha

It's been running fine ever since.

Which movement is in it, exactly ?

David doesn't have the "Swiss" 6497-1 E-series engraved mov't that Ziggy dissected some time ago...well at least that's what I was told, anyway.
Can you supply the back-case shot ?

cheers,
babola

Babola, here you go, my Son, damaged my camera and so the photo quality is not what it should be. This is the 'latest' Davidsen' movement.

This is not the movement covered by Ziggy. This one should be tip top.

Mine is fat swan neck with the screws missing on the right side of the balance wheel.

Thanks for the photo HM,
your pic shows H-series OPIX Swiss ETA 6497 mov't. Although not 'cosmetically' correct for Fiddy which was released in 2002 when the E-series OPIX was used, it's a good movement.

I'd rather have that H-series mov't in my rep than the "Swiss" E-series questionable mov't Ziggy wrote about. Although the notorious "c0ck & balance wheel" problem seems to be a thing of the past on that particular version, there's still a question of it's mysterious origin. After all the investigation of other forumers including myself, the concensus is that it's a mish-mash of diferrent NOS ETA parts (baseplate), Asian drive-train, bridges and S/N regulator. This is also the only "Swiss ETA??" that comes with dial retention screws on the side of baseplate - something even Ziggy identify as 'strange'.

Wear it in good health,
babola

Finicky Fiddy?

-

Finicky Fiddy.

Guess it all depends on the 6497. I'm sorry to hear of your tribulations. Is this the 'new' 6497 that ziggy has critiqued - would seem a possibility.

The whole choice of movment has become even more complex in the last 12 mths.

Thanks Babola, the watch did stop again today and was fired up by the same method. There is clearly something wrong. It is good to know that it is not the 6947-1 that is problematic. It must be some kind of fluke. Davidsen asked me to send it back to him so that he can fix it and that is all anyone could hope to ask for in this kind of situation. Thanks to all who offered help.

Agree HM,
the best is to leave it with the dealer, and you've been dealing with one of the best and most reliable :)

cheers,
