Im looking to purchase a MP5 and a MP1 and i was wondering if someone can tell me how they would compare these straps to say a SC historic, or to an OEM gen croc? These straps looks soft right out of the box but what do i know, before i take the plunge i respect the feedback on this forum so any and all help is greatly appreciated.

What im looking for is a soft strap kind like the Oem's but i would like some variety as i can only stand the black calf and oem croc so much. Any help is appreciated.

I would say much higher quality than an SC which looks 'grain corrected' to me.

IMHO Paci straps are way nicer than OEM and more stylish. I would say the same about Greg Stevens, Simona, MF etc.

Mario Paci straps are very well-made and definitely one of my favourites.

MP1 for the more classic. MP5 with golden stitch is a great combo with a 1950 in 26mm.

For the more Pre-V look, go for the Mario Paci PAV Special Editions...PAV91 and PAV99 are a must to go with any PAMs.

2 cents.

May I ask, why you want to buy a MP in particular?

Reason I ask, is because they are still partly machine made and are far too expensive for a mass produced item, imo.

What I got from beano's post was that he wants something very OEM-like, but with a bit more character or flavor than most of the OEM offerings. The MPs fit that bill to a T.

I have several MP straps and 2 of the MP PAV straps and they are made of beautiful leather to be sure. Very pleased with them. The gator OEM straps have always been tempting. I have a custom gator strap being made right now as I found a designer who makes what I thought looked way better than the OEM. I wil post photos when I get it. I have a couple of Greg Stevens straps too and never wear them. It's funny how the quest for the perfect strap bug gets you. Good luck.

I think MP straps are some of the finest I've seen. GeF aren't bad either. I've had Greg Stevens straps, bull, straps etc., and the MP/GeF seem to me to have the best workmanship. The stitching is dead on and they age so well. I've never seen or handled yours totall or savage's but they look great. Your right MPs are a little pricey but with our discount 120.00 isn't so bad. The straps that TWP offer also look fantastic but I'd like to see the build quality. Bottom line is you can't go wrong with MPs.

Hey sean,

I didn't realize there was a discount that would knock it down from $199 to $120. That is a much better price.

Thanks for the compliment, but I wouldn't compare my straps to a machine made strap.

@tootal Thanks for responding. Yes here at RWI you can take off 39% so a 199.00 strap is 121.39 which I've never thought of as too much. I think Greg's are 109.00 or 119.00 something along those lines. I love the baseball strap you've done. I was under the assumption that MP and GeF are hand stitched. I love the look of some of the hand made straps I've handled but it seems the leather isn't cured the same as an MP. I don't know maybe its just me.

Guys thanks for all the imput actually i have an opportunity to buy two mp straps for $135 total shipped and i wanted to find out the quality of these straps, i hear all the time how great they are and i have several oem straps and they are nice but i would like to move to a strap that has character but not over bearing. So i take it that this price is good for two if so im going to buy them.

Thanks

Bean

At less than $70 shipped/ea, you'd be a fool not to try 'em out (provided they're in good shape). I have had 5 different MP straps and have yet to be disappointed with any of them.

Some good choices. I'd also consider a MP X in tan; and also the GeFs. GeFs are underrated IMHO - and don't forget are made at the OEM manifatture for the gen Pre-V Panerai, going back to the 1980s.

I can vouch for the La Spezia; the Palombari in tan is perfect for a 47mm; and the Bersaglieri - for a more dressy look the cordovan is better than the OEMs.

Also, don't ignore the wonderful MP natural - instant classic - and the PAV98 for 47mm.

well i sent the gentleman an email telling him I will take them, so far i have has a Greg streap, SC historic and several OEM, and i only really liked the OEM's to date. I did have a Pav99 but it was too big so i sold it so now im curious to see how these will work.

Thanks for all the help i truly appreciate it and if i dont like the way these feel im quite sure someone will buy them. Now... perhaps its time to get rid of my OEM brown croc... hummmmmm...
