movement holder question

Hey all.

I just built a 201/A, and have a question.

I had to file the dial down around the diameter (dsn dial, standard case off ebay), and take the feet off to set it on the dial. i didn't have movement holders, so i made some out of really thin metal. now on the six side the dial is tight to the rehaute, bottom of inside of case, and on the 12 side there is a thin gap. the gap starts from the top of the three to the top of the nine with the largest part of the gap (like half a mm) at the 12. while not noticeable, i think it may be making the winding stem a bit harder than normal to wind. will a proper movement holder solve this problem?

thanks in advance everyone.

ill post pictures of the 201 shortly.

Pete buddy,
the case you bought from 'helenarou' is a really bad example, and not good at all, I'm afraid. Three weeks ago I made the same mistake, and returned the case for a full refund.

It's of wrong measurements, both internal and external, finish is horrible and it comes with an inferior mineral glass, 2mm thick (xtal on gens and standard reps is 3.5mm thick) and is wrongly advertised as Sapphire. The CG is too thin, and crown teeth ground almost to their base (not exactly sure why they do it this way). It doesn't come as a surprise to me that you're now having issues with internal case tolerances for achiveing the good fit between all the inner parts.

The case is obviously made by neither of two factories that currently produce Pam reps, and it doesn't stack up to the quality and finish of the aforementioned two.

Sorry to break it to you like this buddy, you definitely put some great effort in making that 201/a and the result is very nice considering all the issues you had to deal with and eventualy overcome, but the case itself is bad news :(

I know Angus sells his 44mm S/S case set at a premium, but it's worth every dollar and pays off on a long run.

cheers,
babola

P.S. As a reference for others, here's the 44mm S/S case 'helenarou' sells on eBay:

My personal advice is to STAY AWAY from it - I've seen it and held it in my hand, and eventualy returned for a refund.

I know of a guy who purchased from Helenarou. First watch came with oxidation on the movement and a fogged crystal. Returned for one with the hands bent down to scratch a circle in the dial.

I would personally advise to stay away, though the info posted above is more informative and more compelling.

yeah, i sent back the case for a refund. i had an old 111H that i was going to ressurect from the dead, so i just used the case from there. i will post some new pictures later tonight. case looks similar, but you can really see the difference on the crystal. fit better too.
