Hi guys im totally new to the rep watch game and have been interested in buying a super rep. after browsing through the guide i really liked the PAM104 but realised it was using a automatic A7750 movement which ive heard is quite unreliable and really loud. i was hoping you guys could help me pick out a super rep with a really good and reliable movement hopefully one that is close to a gen

hey, I've asked this question myself as well. I know the ALE PAM guide is really comprehensive and long, however you will find the most valuable information in that thread. I decided to go for PAM111. Happy reading!

All of the older generation, hand-winding 6497 movements are reliable -- the movement is a workhorse and it doesn't have any extra decorations to create issues. The A7750 is a hit or miss movement, but I've had good experience with it across the board. If it is too loud, or comes from the factory DOA, there are a number of excellent watch smiths on here that can help get it up to snuff.

I am not sure when that statement about the A7750 was made but the actual situation is most certainly isn't as bad as what you think it is. Granted, manual or automatic, I would pick a manual wind everytime. But the A7750 movement has improved by leaps and bounds ever since its introduction several years ago. if you love the PAM104, then by all means, get it as it is certainly an excellent choice for a super rep, even with the A7750 movement. And if you should be the uncommon recipient of a faulty movement, it has matured to the point that any competent watchmaker can repair it and spare parts are readily available. ;)

6497 manual movement is very reliable. Don't worry about 7750 movement. It is quite reliable, too.

There is debate about the 7750. I would recommend that if you want reliability you stay away from it. As previously mentioned the A6497 is a very reliable movement. I've never had one fail. I've had many 7750s fail even when not using the Chrono.

Literally about to post the same question, albeit I was interested in the Submersible until I realised the 7750 movement. I think a good, solid move would indeed be a PAM111, but I'm also considering the 411 or 390 - all with 6497 movements. Let me know how you get on...

Both are solid movements, and I have both, but the 6497 has less components and is a much simpler design, so less potential points of failure.

I suggest that your source for the adjectives " unreliable and loud " is exactly that. Had 229 for 8 years (similar to a 104) have upgraded the cyclops and CG and it runs like a champ (quietly)

My 7750 Based 088 is no louder then my Swiss 7750's. Remember, the 7750 has a unidirectional wind rotor which can lead to more prominent rotor noise then other designs like the 2836 which are bidirectional wind. The manual wind 6497 will be the quietest as there is no rotor to spin.

This Torobravo watches are fantastic for the price, but a Noob PAM111 is VERY hard to beat, clear caseback too, 6497 hand wound movement, beautiful rep IMO......

The 7750 usually comes with deco plate screwed on top of the movement itself so there is always a risk of falling screws...However those are not happening all the time.
6497 IMO is the best one out there, 90% of the look of the real thing and performs equally.

There is no guarantee with rep movements. Even a tried and true A6497 manual wind movement can fail after you've gotten the watch. The last question was for a movement that hasn't even been a year in circulation (and that has already been replaced by a V2 with the correct 12-hour GMT and working gen functions, although not for the specific watch asked) so any answers about its reliability barely holds true.
