Looking into my first PAM rep. Considering 111, but I favor automatic over manual movement. I also like open vs closed back, so I'm looking at 1312 as well (like the blue accented hand!).

That being said, I'd be less than thrilled if the guts start rotting a few months after I have it in my hands. I'm hoping to require minimal long-term maintenance. I understand that durability is an obvious weakness of reps in general, but any thoughts on which PAMs are relatively durable and requires minimal servicing?

Thanks for your thoughts!

I have PAM reps that are old 10+ years and never ever failed on me. I have to say as well that none of them were serviced in that period of time. All of them are well and ticking. Just the other day I wound them all (20pcs) and I have been following them to check their PR (not that much accuracy in +/- seconds since that would be too much).

my first rep was a DSN pam 000, I hand it for 5 years before I even knew about RWI and its still running strong.

What about a decorated Pam Seagull movement as in Pam 505? Are they strong longtern and in terms of availability of parts?

Decorated movements are at best as reliable as the base movements, in this case the Seagull ST2555. It's as reliable as the current A7750 based on anecdotal evidence. Watches based on this movement are cheaper than the A7750 based ones. However, IF it breaks down it's not as serviceable in that you would most likely need a straight movement swap out therefore it costs more when needing servicing. In comparison the A7750 is a very popular movement and most parts are readily available.

If you want to make sure a replica will run for a long time without any issues, then have it serviced immediately (by a rep-friendly watchmaker of course) upon receipt. That said, I am of the same experience dadog13 bought a number of PAMs and so far all of them are still running without any servicing. :)

Thank you. The A7750 movements should not be hand winded to last longer and in order that gears wont get stripped due to high tension. Can ST2555 movements be hand winded without issues or is it the same recomendation as for A7750 in terms of hand winding?

I don't have that info (I have both A7750 and Seagull based watches and I give all of them a bit of a wind before putting them on) but I'm pretty sure you can find that out with a bit of reading on the movement itself.

Go with a Pam manual wind A6497 movement, this is most durable mov.

I agree. These movements have by far been the most reliable movements in any of my reps (Panerai, Rolex, Breitling, etc.).

Thanks for the helpful input, everyone. I feel more reassured about the overall durability of these pieces. Also feel reassured that the PAM111 might be the best first purchase for me, given the basic mechanics of the piece. Thanks again!

I have 2 hand wind pam reps the 411 and 292. They feel by far the most solid compared to some others auto reps, maybe its because I baby the autos too much.

Buy the one you like the most and wear a g-shock when you’re exercising, chopping wood or ferociously feeding the chooks.
