Ok, so I had a Cartier Pasha and a Mont Blanc Meierstruck by Trevor and we all know the story: ink dries out soon, and it's refill time.
So after researching a bunch, I realize that all rep rollerball refills are the same ones Chinese manufacturers make and stamp 701 after marking Mont Blanc on them. The problems is, these 701's don't necessarily come easy (I tried fleabay, google, etc.) and gen refills fitting rep pens is a toss up at best. I wasn't going to spend $12 for refill just to find out that it doesn't fit on my $10-$15 rep pen.
So, I get "gel ink refills - 3 medium 0.7mm black" packet from Staples for $2 (#11122 refills for Staples Classic Grip pens - #31581). It comes with 2 black and 1 blue gel ink refill cartridges, AND money back guarantee from Staples for ANY reason ANY time. I figure to give it a try and if it doesn't work, just get my $2 back (if I even remember to go back; probably cost more on gas to make a trip).
Of course... it doesn't work. The tips don't have the screw in grooves, and if you press hard on the tip after it is placed inside the pen, it pushes it back in towards the casing.
So,
1. I take the cartridge cap it came with, and scissor 1cm from the opening, leaving the closed end intact. Obviously, you'll have to adjust this based on the length of YOUR pen.
2. place the cartridge cap inside the pen before placing the ink cartridge,
3. then place the ink cartridge,
4. screw in like you would (you'll feel resistance, but keep screwing it in until you are almost maxed, BUT don't max it out in screwing it in: this should be fine because the cap is a soft/er plastic that gives). Again, you'll have to adjust this based on the length of YOUR pen.
5. Voila!!! It works like a charm, just based on resistance and length. It really doesn't mess with the pen's tube. Hell, if it does, well... it was a $15 pen.
Eitherway, it works like a charm, and I spent $2. I'm very impressed with the refill from Staples, and this is the route I'll be taking for all my pen writing. Probably gonna get a few more rollerball reps.
Hope you find this helpful!!!
