I'm new to the forum but already my ambition is to own a top notch 127 or 372 Could I have your opinion regarding who and how I could obtain one of these upgraded watches? I note Marlin does great work but I only have 19 posts so far and I think I've only used eBay once? is there hope that someone would build me something special?

If you want a nicely modded watch, I would go with the 127, as there's a lot you can mod and with the movement it uses, youll see the results. The 372 is good to wear as-is. You cant really mod much because its either an SC movement, which is a custom Chinese made MVT designed to copy the Gen... or you have the Noob version that uses a 6497 with a deco plate to look like the Gen. But again, with that one, any mod will go unnoticed because of the faux plate.

Step one is buy a 127 and then have it sent out to get modded.

many thanks Strodda, I have 2 127 models which I bought approx 7 years ago and one is noticeably better than the other. It was supposed to be a special project at the time but my knowledge was even more limited then. does it matter how good the initial watch is or would everything important be replaced eg sapphire and movement or does the modification need a top class rep as a starting point? I recognise your expertise in this area Strodda and appreciate your time and advice.

I'm not good at posting pictures but you can find them of my 2 watches in my first posting under Huckleberry, new member Panerai fan , as a fellow member was good enough to post them for me. If you have the time to track them down and take a peak I would appreciate your views

If you want a nice modded one, I would suggest selling both of those and getting a new one or noob if you can catch one for sale. Dial side, theyre both nice and definitely good enought to wear, but the movements on both are inaccurate and not worth the money modding, IMO.

Although, this one...

looks to be nicely modded but its using all 6497-1 parts.

Many thanks for the information and help Strodda. You have given me valuable info and food for thought. I still would like to eventually own a super 127 and will think a bout which of the current versions is the best buy. In the meantime I know what I've got already thanks to you and will continue to enjoy my watch
