So I dropped a ton of coin accumulating parts for a gen movement mk1 1675 build, special tripdog case with a 66 serial, gen hands (minus the second hand but that’s another story), gen crystal, gen insert, gen hooked 7 date wheel, MQ long E dial… only to discover the supposedly great condition Rolex 1570 movement I bought wasn’t so great. It was in fact drowning in oil and needed several parts replaced, mostly involving the date jump mechanism but also the mainspring. Just proves again that the vintage arena is a minefield. But Mike brought it back from the dead, fully serviced and cleaned up the movement, and sourced the needed parts. Now it it’s the most amazing watch I’ve ever had on my wrist. You’re a genius Mike, thank you!!

Hi,
I recently got a yodog 1675 on rwi. Looking to do the same thing Gen 1570 movement. I might go another route and find a Gen dial and keep the a2836 movement, hands. The Gen dial is a big coin drop! But keeping the a2836 movement will not have the hooked 7 date wheel. Any advice? Thanks.

Yeah really it just depends on which rep parts you’re willing to live with. I had a bunch of 2836 builds but all rep hands/date disc options were always bothersome to me. Never achieved the look I wanted. Only way around that was a 1570. There are plenty of Viet dials out there that do the trick, I didn’t need to spend 3-4k on a gen mk1 dial. Having said that, if the dial is your main bugaboo, there are mk5’s or service dials to be had around the 1k mark, depending on condition. So again it’s what are you willing to live with? For me, an mk1 1675 is my grail, so I knew I couldn’t live with anything less than a gen movement, and I knew I didn’t also need to spend money on a gen dial. For others that level of commitment isn’t necessary to enjoy it.
