WTF happened. I understand the "protect yourself at all times" rule, but WTF.
Just lost all respect for Mayweather. He is a good enough fighter not to take a win like that. I was glad to hear that he would give Ortiz a rematch. I say Ortiz gets another big pay day and take a rematch. If that didn't happened, it could have still gone either way. One thing I think may come good of this for Ortiz is that If he was going to loose, then this was a good way for him to loose. This because at least it wasn't a true lose in the eyes of most boxing fans. He can still hold his head up high and move forward in his career.

I agree. If you're gonna lose that's the way to do it. Unfortunately, a loss is a loss. You would hope a fighter as good as Mayweather wouldn't take a win that way. But he did and then he vigorously defended it. To me, it's a character thing. Mayweather showed he is nothing more than a cheap suit. I wish Larry Merchant was 50 years younger. LOL.

One last thing. The ref stopped the fight and did call for the fighters to begin fighting again. IMO, Mayweather should have been DQ'd, or the fight should have been called no contest.

Cheap shot, no doubt ... Ortiz should have covered up after the first blow though, imho...

If someones opinion of Floyd lacking class came from this fight they probably haven't been listening to any news regarding him this year.

As far as a rematch with Ortiz goes sure it will draw big numbers based upon this ending, but the only fight anyone really wants to see will unfortunately probably never happen.

If the money's right, it should happen..... and Floyd would still end up broke ..

He looked blacked out in the first punch to me

Yes, but IMO the first one was not an actual "punch," it was more like a retaliaton slap, in which Oritz should have been insulted and really ready to fight back.

The second one was DEFINITELY a sucker punch though.

Hopefully the rematch goes better.

What I'm trying to say is his facial expression from the first punch looked like he was seeing stars. How can anybody expect him to put his dukes up to defend when clearly he's already knocked out from the first?

Totally agree. There's no one else like him; the "old school" insight coupled with his being so "tipsily" entertaining. Larry Merchant is a man of measure, the measure being 2 fingers at the bottom of a rocks glass. You can't help but think of him sipping on a decent scotch between takes, much to the chagrin of his co-workers. Maybe I suppose too much, but I've listened to Larry for a lot of years and given some of his ramblings, it just seems to fit.

He is one of the last great philosophers of "The Sweet Science".

I watched Mayweather fight Sharmba Mitchell back in 2005 at The Coliseum in Portland. Tried to get Larry Merchant's autograph between the preliminary bouts. The HBO crew seemed to be keeping him busy and he was extremely apologetic. Then again, maybe he just needed a drink...

As for the fight, I didn't watch it. Figured I'd catch it On Demand and interpret the outcome then. At this point, the ONLY fight I will pay to see Mayweather in is the one that EVERYONE wants to see. If I could watch Mayweather bleed (I already know he whines like a bitch) then I would die a happy man after that.

Cheap shot? How about all the butt-heading from Ortiz? Were those not cheap shots? Ortiz would've done the exact same thing of Floyd opened up like that. At the end of the day it was legal like it or not.

Difference is Qinetiq is that Floyd is no doubt superior. He had the fight won. He is one of the best fighters today (can't say best until he proves it).

He claims he IS the best and people who are THE BEST in any sport don't win like that. The people who are the best beat dirty fighters fair and square to prove to themselves that they are in fact the best. The dirtier the opponent the more respect you have for your self after you beat them legitimately.

Ortiz lost before he even stepped into the ring. Floyd knew that already.
