I know it is a matter of taste but, since there are a lot of guys with attention to detail in this forum I would like to ask the following.

I am planning to buy a 177L from Lay. (The one that comes with a rubber strap) and I am also planning to buy a black and a brown leather strap.

Here is the question. I wear informal clothes at work most of the time but sometimes I wear a grey suit, black shoes, black belt etc.

To match that grey suit what do you think is better.

1) The black leather strap that lay.

2) A black strap from Heroic 18

I am also planning to buy the following strap from Heroic 18 but this is unrelated.

If your going to dump money on the heroic, trust me when I say this. Go for something else.

For the money you can get a lot nicer strap. Not to say H18 isn't nice but in my experience they look a lot more machined. I would go for something made by gringo, dirk, MP, ted su ect. They are a little more but the difference in the quality and hides is amazing.

Just my .02

The good thing with Panerai is the tons of strap makers available, and some of them are trully handmade work. For 120$ you can have a custom strap with amazing leather, softness, etc... Heroic is good but expensive due to the quality(not real handmade).
Browse on the strapmaker on RWI, RG, RWG & Paneristi, etc.. There are some really amazing leather work, and take your time, the only plus on site like Heroic, Kain Heritage... Is that you can have your strap in few days.

Dirk, MP and Ted Su are more than a "little" more expensive than Heroic18, though. Like twice as much, or more.

Thanks a lot Guys. I am totally confused now but on a good way and there is no rush. This is my first Panerai and your opinion is very valuable to me.

As I said it is a matter of taste but why not ask the people with the better taste I found on the web.

Not when TC puts everything on half price brother ;)

Dirks though, yes, and I try and find them used!

Dirk or MP all the way. If I could get MP to sew in my buckle then that's would be my choice of strap. Honestly I think Dirks are way overpriced for what they are

I'd recommend Rob Montana and his alcantara/hippo straps.

All his works are a beauty.

Highly recommended.

Check my post PAm 104 VAC and one of his custom hippo straps.

Good luck anyway.

there are a billion strap makers!

the paneraisource subdirectory for after market straps has a list with a very handy price range column to narrow the choice based on your budget

+1 on Eric (Donerix). Have a couple now and they are exceptional. I am only buying from him from now on.

To go with shirts and suits, I'd go with black stitchless.

Here's mine from Savage...
