MARINA MILITARE

I am thinking of buying a Marina Militare (1997 i think) rep. I would like everyone's opinion, whether the specific watch (limited edition, i think) would be easily spotted as a replica -despite it's quality- only because of the fact that it is not a usual model, so it is not easy for a genuine one to be found.

hrm.. its interesting..

does a rarer watch mean more or less likely to be called on it.

there are fewer of them, so odds of you owning one are slim, unless you can pull it off...

but on the other hand.. very few have heard of the brand, let alone that specific model. fewer people in the world that would even have any idea what that specific model looked like.

but... who the hell cares if you get called out? if someone can spot that model and identify it as such... i mean... that alone means the guy is a loon.. or a WIS.. ;) let alone identify it as a fake on the wrist.

and if someone does call you on it with valid reasons.. buy the guy a drink and talk about watches... lol.

very nice watch. Won't get called out

Unless he runs into me where I will call him out real good. "Hey what are you doing wearing that fake watch when people are paying thousands for the real thing? Don't you know that there are people in China who cannot tell what time it is??" [smilie=naka.gif]

If you mean the MM20 RXW, I think you won´t get called out. It is a hommage to Panerai and was less expensive thta the fiddy, so I think nobody will call you a faker. Only a noob might call it a rep-fiddy, but the MM20 is older that a PAM 127!!!
I really like that watch, was thinking about one for a while and will get one next time!

It would be an interesting discussion over drinks, for sure :)

Which "Marina Militare" are you speaking of? The PAM036 (Ti and brown dial)? If so, how accurate it is depends greatly on which version you get...

Do you have a picture, by chance?

Yes, that's the one. Which of versions do you mean?

Well, there were a couple of different versions out there. There was the thin dial/thick crown 036 that Ruby and Joshua were famous for selling. Then there was another version that used the "standard" case with the thinner crown. Then there is Davidsen's version. They all have their flaws...

So, which one are you buying?

i am not sure yet. i like davidsen's version but i think -not sure- that the dial is a bit more red than needed, as well as the numbers more yellow than they shoud be -again, i am new here, i am not totally sure. As for ruby, i have not seen the model in her catalogue. Josh's one seems nice to me as well as trustywatchguy's (not sure about his name). I could use some opinion from otherse here, though.

Yes, DSN's numbers are too yellow, and the dial is slightly different brown that what the gen *appears* to look like in photos.

However, the bad news is that Ti cased PAM reps are becoming very rare. I'd bet that Joshua(PerfectClones) and Andrew(TrustyWatchGuy) don't actually have those reps anymore, even though they're still on their websites.

I would check with them. Also, email Ruby, she might be able to dig one up for you.

Good luck!
