Had this old wall clock that I bought in Barcelona few years ago, a little diy with foam roman numbers, you know the deal.

Got tired of it and was shopping around for nice dealer clocks, but to be honest they’re either rubbish, expensive or both.

So I had a go in my spare time and cooked something up.

First I needed a nice dial pic, straight up shot from the front center, not easy but I found a particularly nice one, edited it a bit, pumped up the res and got it printed at a local print shop.

Had ordered a 30cm plywood disc on the bay for cheap, including center hole.

Made the hand using the original ones and some balsa wood.

And the toughest part was the lume, it took me a lot of lume powder and some slow hardening resin but it looks spot-on now!

Might redo the hands at one point but pretty happy as is. Sandwich dial would also be nice ...
I think I might end up doing some more, with small seconds @9 and some of the obscure dial designs :)

For the lum, I will stick behind a white plexyglass plate of the same size but which lets the light through.
Because underneath it, I would put a system of green LEDs to simulate the index lum.
The whole thing will be placed in a block of wood. (mechanism, led, and sandwich dial)
For the painting I will probably paint everything in black, with white writing. Either stencil or with a sticker.

Only problem the needles...
How do I find the same but bigger ones ??
No led light, so probably powdered light.

For cutting, it is a laser cutting.

(sorry for my english)

SnKk you just cut them out of balsa and epoxy the original hands or part of it to the custom hands

Balsa why not? I have to try. Thanks !!
I'm afraid it's a little heavy after that for the mechanism, isn't it?

But I don't think I'm lighting the needles.
I don't have any luminous powder and I've never tried it before.

SnKk Balsa weighs almost nothing, and very good characteristics. You can order tritium tubes maybe or luminous tape (search ebay)
And if it's too heavy, a high torque movement costs next to nothing.
