.... quiet day at work and had a fair bit of spare time on my hands.

I saw a thread on panristi recently where a dude was selling really thick buckles. Today in a fit of boredom started sketching buckles, harder than I thought to get the dimensions right from memory, did not have a pam to hand when I did this so I really struggled as you will see :D Click on the pics for a better view.

It was made out of a bit of scrap, 5mm thick flat bar, nothing special about the metal.I normally work from my van but I was in a workshop on my own and could not find any taps and dies so could not thread the pin.

Anyway, thought I would share my efforts, it actually feels fantastic in the hand, everyone who has held it has rolled it in their hand.

Had enough fun doing this that I may have another go in the future at some point, perhaps with a better bit of metal.

Cheers for looking and let me know what you think.

There are ALOT of people popping up all over the place making straps. VERY FEW making buckles. And for a first attempt that is quite impressive.
May I suggest honing your skills and marketing these on the gen forums, or better yet contact some of the strap makers and offer your custom buckles to them.
Im not easily impressed... but this did it!

Great work, I think you are on to something here.
You should make more of those.
I would buy it.
Maybe we can co-operate/trade.

Nice work, Hyster! You should try a buckle like that, but either bevel or knife-edge the exterior edges. It would slim-down the look a bit, IMO.

Thanks for your kind comments, I will have another go when I have the time and a better bit of steel to play with.

I don't think I would consider selling these until I have a lot more of them under my belt, really appreciate the encouragement though.

You've got this marketing thing ALL WRONG... We are rep collectors, we will buy a V1, V2, V3, V4, V5 and so on... As long as there are variations in quality and/or design we will buy them.
If you wait until you create the very best of the very best, no one will be interested.
Just my opinion...

yes it was a first attempt, honesty, a lot of time spent on it though throughout a quiet day at work, pretty pleased how it turned out but there are guys who work with me who could have made a better job of it.

Thanks for the encouragement guys.

I will make you a deal... You sell me a buckle just like the one you have already made (with threaded bar) and I will go out and buy a Pam to put it on. Since I dont have any rep Pams right now, I will have the buckle before the watch!
And please serial number it 00001.

Nice work.....you should get back to it sooner rather than later...

And when you do .... put me down for two pieces. 1 will be for my 111H and the other will be for my Fiddy...

As for serial number '0000' for both ....

So Hyster - where is the finished product?
The offer for the trade (buckle for a strap) still stands.
I think you getting the better end here ( I just want a buckle that is different and I am sure many more do too !!!).
Let me know and show us how it looks once completed.
