I can't even remember where I bought my Panerai replica, except it was from a trusted dealer. Nice watch and all, but one day it just died. It's wound full, but won't get going. The hands can be moved, but when I look through the clear back, the wheel just rocks back and forth when shaken. If I move it in circles, it gets some momentum going, but the second hand never moves.

So is is toast and just toss it? Or is there a way to save it?

It's probably something that can be fixed. The 6497 style movements are pretty robust. See if you can find a local watchmaker that will work on reps and have them take a look at it. Try a small independent shop and let them know it is a replica. They can probably tell what's wrong and give you an estimate for the repairs before you spend any money.

Good luck. And post what you find out so others can benefit from your quest.

a gentle but firm tap on the front of the glass has been said to get it going sometimes. If not a watchsmith should be able to fix that movement, no problem
