Couple of things that may work:
1. Remove the connector piece that bridges the two lug bars. If you want more stability, put a tube in your strap. In order to get both lug bars into their receiving holes, it can't be 100% straight, so this helps with that.
2. Remove the rubber gaskets on the receiving ends of the bars. These seem like a good idea in principal, but you are not exposing any of the internals of the watch with these holes, and the holes are already tight -- so those are great if you can fit them in, but aren't 100% necessary.
You don't really have to force the bars in, but you have to work with them to make sure they are fully seated and both sides are equidistant from the case (so you don't have an eyesore of uneven lugs). If you get lucky, it should take about 3-5 minutes per side. If they are being difficult, step away, be patient and do your best not to throw the watch head into the TV haha.
