Lost Screw for Crown Protector on Pam 111

Looked down this morning at my newly purchased Pam 111, which up until now I was super happy with, and saw that the Crown Protector had a little gap in between the CP and the case. I thought to myself, hmm that is strange that I hadn't noticed that before. I pushed a little on the end that had the small gap and quickly realized the little screw holding it in place was loose and it just needed to be tightened. I don't have any jewlers screw drivers and I thought no big deal. I'll order some and in the mean time maybe I'll go get something at Home Depot or something. I get to my office and I look down to see this:

Pretty sure I will never see that little bugger ever again. :cry2:
Anyone know what type/Size etc of that little screw is and where I might be able to find another 1 or 2?

It seems as though a little Loctite might be in order. Anyone think that is a good/bad idea?

Thanks

also for future reference - any time you get a new PAM - it is highly advised to use Loctite on the threads of those screws. I forget which one i have but if you search for Loctite on the forum, i am sure you will find info on the right one.

This way you will prevent loosing something more important like the actual crown guard!! :)

Sorry to hear about your trauma.

Which version do you have ? With it being a recent purchase, I would guess a Noob V4 P series.

I have a Noob V3 N series crown guard screw I can send you from a beater that has seen its prime ... they should be compatible.

Remember to also use thread locker on the lug & buckle pins ... these will fall out if left untreated. Any half decent micro precision screwdrivers will do the job ... don't waste money on expensive Bergeon tools (unless you really want to).

PM me details so I can send it over.

Hang in there, help is on its way.

Regards.

If memory serves me right, it's the blue threadlocker (weak mechanical) appropriate for disassembly using only hand tools like screwdrivers.

Yes, it is the noob v4. Well i guess technically v3.5 as there really isnt a true v4 yet.

PM on its way. You sir are very kind. I will try to find a way to pay it forward

Doesn't that make it difficult to change the strap easily?

That's why you use a weak threadlocker. The screw won't unscrew by itself, there needs to be an applied force to break the hold of the screw to the thread, which in this case comes from the screwdriver. That is also one reason why the use of screw tubes are important. Without them, in time. the inside of the strap will catch onto the lug bar and every movement will slowly unscrew that lug bar. Using screw tubes prevents that from happening as the lug bars will just move freely inside the tubes and keep their locked position for longer. Normally lug bars once properly tightened will hold the lock for a long time but it wouldn't hurt to put a dab of threadlocker on the threads, especially if you tend to change straps infrequently (meaning you change them once every few months). :)

the link you provided, 2 crowns cost close to $100 where as other screws are $10-$25. Are there big differences?

I think they changed the price - this might just be a typo when they relisted the item. It should be nowhere near this amount. I bought 2 from them for 12 bucks or something along those lines.

Please - i really hope no1 buys those screws for a hundred bucks. Thats just crazy talk.
