Hello, i'm Tommy

I'm knew here and i really dont know much about watches..

I saw a beatiful watch from Panerai, called Luminor.
So I searched alot of sites from TDs, but each time there was something wrong, like: cheap strap/quality/movement, bad reputation/service, shipping, price,..

I wanted to ask: do you guys know a trusted dealer (decent quality) that sells this watch: http://www.jacksontse.com/new/product-page.php?product_id=78 (can also be Luminor gmt, .. but same colors: black strap, black dial, green numbers :) )
And i don't wanna buy it from Silix because they wont refund me if my watch gets seized by customs :(
Price can go up to 120$

and do you guys think I should buy this watch (link above) from Jackson ? (like if it has good quality, movement, dealer reputation,shipping,..)

1 last thing: what happens if my watch gets seized at Belgium customs ?

Thanks alot! :)

Any of the TD's on RWI can help you out
As I already mentioned it : almost every TD has it, but I want people's help from this forum that also bought this watch and can help me out which dealer is the best for me like price/shipping/reputation/quality..

thanks

You should do a lot of research before you start asking questions like these. First of all, almost any TD here can get you the same watches. For price/shipping/reputation you would have to check their reviews and do A LOT of reading around the forum. Everyone has different priorities. I for one am looking for better prices and aftersales service if something goes wrong and I don't mind waiting few days for my TD to get me a watch I want. Someone else could be impatient and has to have a watch in a few days so he will maybe pay $20-30 more but he will get the watch quicker than I am. It all depends. Quality will be the same from any of them since they all sell the same watches made from the same factories (in most of the cases).
Second, for $80-120 you won't get a good and reliable watch. If you can't spend more, you rather get a Casio or Invicta than a rep that won't last longer than a few months. If it has to be rep, get a nice quartz one which uses same case as best auto version of that model (but you won't find quartz PAM out there).

Good PAMs starts at around $180 + shipping (H-factory 111 or something similar) and I suggest you to save up some more and get a good watch rather than throw $120 and not having the watch nor money in after few months. Here are some links of PAMs that are good to begin with:

http://www.torobravos2014.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=961

There are a lot more but you will have to search for that.

Last of all, since you are in EU, ask TD for triangle shipping (search around about that). It will be $20-30 more expensive but your watch won't be seized by customs. Not all TD's offering that service so ask some of them before you order.

Once again, before you ask another noob question, READ. You won't always get answers like this as we always like to say "do your homework". We all learned with reading and you should do the same.

Welcome to RWI! ;)

I think you will get the same answer from a lot of people regarding the TD's. They are dealers and get most watches from the same places, meaning its down to personal preference at the end of the day. I've personally brought watches from Toro, Puretime, River, Silix etc and never had any issues with any of them.

if your still unsure, the search button is your friend.

shelby1501 beat me and answered it a lot better

shelby1501 fantastic proactive reply frm you :) that's what makes forums great and helpful.

I believe that reading/research helps but also sharing information to each member in the forum regardless of noob question or whatever question. It helps the OP gets his/her ans quicker than research.

Forums are abt sharing information with each other.

If everyone just tell each other to read the forums or use the "search" function or "Google is your friend" instead of sharing it to the OP, then what is the purpose of having a forum where everyone is keeping information to themselves?

I feel that knowledge should be shared. Once you share it, you will eventually learn more cos other members will chip in to share some information too.

Then the thread would not filled with posts mainly abt...go do your homework, use search button, google it.

:)

Hate me if you want, ignore me if you want, whatever..Hahahaa Just my honest two cents.

Hard to say, but if you don't know watches, $120 is your budget, and you can't handle customs risk, than reps are likely not for you.

You get what you pay for and nearly any mechanical watch for under $120 is going to be a piece of crap. Even the mechanical watch are not Quartz and not backed by warranty....that means to swimming, no drops, no over winding, or whatever else you'll manage to do to the watch.

Reps are just not a 100% safe venture; most folks that buy them get that and can afford the risk. If you can't, save your money.

All the answers above are correct.
Because I am also in Belgium (and own few PAMs) I will just summarise what you need to do:
Budget: min 200$ (160$ if you buy M2M)
Shipping: triangle via UK (or any other EU countries)
Straps: I generally don't use the rep strap I got from the TD but great one (and buckles) can be found on the strap trade forum.

You cannot expect near perfect rep for less than 400$ and if you are tempted have a look at the one sold by Kurwasit.

I hope it will help you get your first one and we will all be very happy to see you post on the forum your first PAM soon.
