Well, I have a number of quartz watches and was wondering if I could retrofit an automatic movement into them. I'm willing to do some trial and error, but I was wondering where I would go to get some reliable but cheap chinese/asian automatic movements? Also, how about tools to do these transplants? I have super cheap non-effective screwdrivers. Anyone have any good links for some precision screwdrivers and hand removal tools?

Thanks for the help. I'm really excited about doing this.

Congratulations on deciding to dive in at the deep-end

Cousins UK are a supplier of Chinese movements as well as most of the other parts you will need; movement adapter ring, crown, hands, as well as the kind of tools you will need. Don't forget some 'Dial Dots' to fix your dial back on as the dial feet won't match

To make life easier for yourself, ensure you choose a replacement movement of the correct thickness and stem height, otherwise you are into machining chapter rings and/or movement spacers

Good luck for your experiments ! I am now trying the same with generic vintage quartz watches,
Sometime you will be lucky, sometime not. Some movements will not fit in some cases. Also hands axes.
But the philosophy you should adopt is : no problems, only solutions... :D

Have a look here, Otto Frei Company located on the US West Coast, imho, the best source for everything concerning our hobby
