Looking for good custom straps

Who on the forum makes good custom straps?

I am looking for a horned alligator as well as a black leather strap.
They would both be notched straps and I would want to choose my color and stitching color. I want nice, thick, quality straps. I can buy inexpensive straps from Panatime or Bob for the basic stuff...

I guess ideally I am looking for pricing around $100 or less for each. I don't see a lot of point in paying $150+ for most straps.

There are different custom guys, but only one on here that I know of that works with gator, Hktan. The problem is that you are not going to get a custom genuine horned gator for under $150. And certainly won't get a thick one for anywhere near $150.

The black strap is no problem. Savage, Hktan, Delaurian, me, etc. could do this for you.

I think SMAT has horned gator, too. However, tootall is absolutely right, you won't find one for less than $100.

For the black leather, I would personally go with tootall or savage_here. Either one of them will hook you up, and their delivery times will be much shorter than any of the bigger strap makers like Greg Stevens, Shane Delaurian, SMAT or HKTan.

Banda has them for $130, custom ordered.

My one and only order from Aaron didn't take that long, but it was about a year ago. It was about 5 weeks, IIRC. Still a pretty long wait.

Yeah, sorry. I missed that in my post. From what I was reading a gen horned alligator would be around $150. I guess I didn't make it very clear. I would be willing to pay more for that. But I guess it also doesn't have to be horned. It could be generic genuine gator...

I have one watch that is like a bell & ross style. It has 24mm lugs, but I want a much wider strap that is notched for the lugs so that it is very wide and then tapers to the wrist. I want it thick, from a nice black leather with orange stitching to match the dial.

The other watch I have has 22mm lugs but I want to fit a 24mm or 26 mm on it and taper to 22mm for a deployant. I would want this in some type of alligator with ivory or cream stitching.

I purchased a black leather bund strap with white stitching from Banda because I was told they were top notch. The strap I received greatly disappointed me. It was thin and flimsy and shows wear quickly. It also looks machine made which makes no sense to me at the cost. It was a waste of money in my opinion. I wish I had talked to one of the guys here for a custom strap. Because of this, I don't think I will buy from Banda in the future. I believe I could have purchased a similar strap for less than half what I paid Banda.

I've talked to Delaurian. His straps are amazing and I think he is generally a cool guy. However, he really didn't seem interested in talking to me about making a custom strap or showing me any examples of previously made similar items. I won't completely refuse to ever deal with him again, but at this point, I don't see any reason to work with him when I can find other people who make great straps at less cost and are more friendly and helpful.

But I know that it will be worth the wait.

Elliot at TC just had the Boney Gators for under $100. I got a black boney gator with a polished screw in buckle for $114 shipped. It is standard OEM thickness and typical quality Italian strap softness. I got lucky with a real nice pattern. I know he sold a heck of a lot during that last 50% off sale.

I am just going into my third month waiting for an HKtan custom gator. He takes FOREVER. If you get away from a 24/24 5mm leather in his popular colors and sizes you are in for a wait. He is nice and still answers email promptly etc.

For under $100 customized straps, you only have a few choices -

Tootall, Savage, & HKTAN (he has some 69-99 dollar straps) or look for second hand straps.

For the leather one, my last one is from SAVAGE : top strap, top price and top dealer (top communication, fast delivery ...)

Not necessarily well under $100...Just around $100. $90-$125 or something. I think the right people in that price range can produce straps as nice or better than the ones in the $150-250 range.

I think the TC 50% off sale ended Sunday or Monday night. Elliot runs all kinds of sales. You just have to check a couple of times a week. He usually posts them in the Panerai or General Discussion forums. He also posts at RWG as well.
