Apologies for posting what is no doubt a well-worn question, but I get the impression that things change quite rapidly in the rep world, so up-to-date info would be hugely appreciated.

I'm after a good rep 6152. In fact ideally, one of the aged builds by masters here like kilowattore but I appreciate that these are few and far between and there may be a rather long queue :)

I understand that price scales with quality and that sometimes, you have to be patient to get what you want :). I'm located in the UK.

If you are handy I strongly suggest you to look at athaya vintage or gordon’s vintagewatchparts (he’s in UK) for an idea on parts price and build one you like.

It is really not that hard and you will learn a lot about horology.

I must admit I hadn't ever considered trying to build my own :) While I'm not incompetent, I'm not sure watch assembly is within my pay grade, but I will most definitely look at the vendors you suggest, if only to learn more about the ingredients :)

Thanks for responding. I'm glad you did as the lengthening silence was making me wonder if I'd somehow breached forum etiquette or managed to ask a very stupid question without realising it.

Well if you get all parts from Nightwatch including lumed dial and aged hands you will make it as plug and play as possible.

The idea is growing on me. I have most of the necessary tools I think (loupe, jeweller's screwdrivers, forceps, multiple grades of fine carborundum paper etc). It's just never even crossed my mind. Nevertheless, I'm on the lookout for a goodie that's already been made. Speaking of which kilowattore I noticed a FS here - a 6152, Marina Militare dial, with concentric machining clearly visible on the dial. I've never seen that in pix of gen vintage 6152s and wonder if it is incorrect?

Concentric could be the surface forming on most 3646 dials.
The way that they leveled the dials using grind stones on milling machines.
I 'm not sure of cource, but since the most burned dials deploy the same concentric motif on the burned paint, it's possible.
Did you ever see the "blue dialed"? There is an article in perezscope that prooves they never excisted. But, i think that reveals the
way those that build them think and act.

Long story sort, seems that older (than 6152) dials was striped from burned paint and anodized with the darker blue
available at the time. Anodised aluminium was way much more durable to thermal radiaton and those found with not much of decoloration.

Concentric machining no, radium burns yes. Have a link?

Hopefully I can post one of the seller's pix. If that's a no-no, mods please delete and accept my apologies:

I dont remember any gen 6152/1 with that effect, but an early 6152/1 with an earlier dial is plausible.

@pamdude, @ kilowattore

Guys, may i take advantage of Nicks' thread to ask something?
You may laugh and i won't blame you but the past months, i study the shape of this case and i will try
to build a fantasy one at 44mm.
I like to ask about my reference shape of case, i study models like pam 622 and 587 cause i found more easily
nice photos of them.
Do you think that i have a good reference or i am targeting on the wrong shape?
I see that gens' shape in photos are not that sharp as the new ones. Are they like this by natural wear and the watch smiths' work to refurbished them over the time?

I will try to keep it as sharp as i can before any polishing, am i on the right way?

thanks!

Pam 622 and 587 are decent reference for 6154 shape (though lugs are too thin). They are completely different from a 6152/1 case which has no crease in the midcase

That's enlightening! Thank you very much!
I thought that i couldn't spot the crease on older photos or that it was softened from the polishings - wear of the years before..
I wil try to make it as sharp as i can, i think like this will help me to be "accurate" with measures and if i manage to achieve this i will check how i like it more.
I have to admit that i like the crease in the midcase but i also found beautiful and "relaxing" its' shape more soft - curved.

ps; er.. yeah, for once again mess up 6154 with 6152, i wonder where this journey will end

Well, I got lucky in M2M with a very nice 6152 Destro. Always wanted a Destro, and there one was. Of course this means that I will still have to get a standard 6152 built (unless I get lucky again in M2M) but I'm very pleased to have stumbled across what looks like a good rep so quickly here. kilowattore may be pleased to know that it is one of his ;-)

Thanks all for the help and suggestions.

You might find it hard to believe but I actually remember almost everything about that build. I recall who.did I do it for, I recall the parts I used and the difficulties I encountered. It's a nice watch, hope you can enjoy it :)

Thank you - I'm very much looking forward to having a new toy (as my wife would say) :)

Nick_B Beautiful piece! You will love it!
If ever you like the crown to the right, it must be an easy change. Ask kilowattore about if you like.

electric You will find it on most TDs. I will ask for it the TD that service my area. There is also 587 that has marina engravings

Thank you. I'm impatiently waiting for it to arrive... I'll probably keep it as a Destro, but I was wondering about the mechanics of that. Presumably all you actually need to do is rotate the dial 180 degrees and swap the strap around and bing - crown on the right. Although I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bit more complicated than that...
