I'm going out on a limb here just because I have had some down time and felt it would not be a bad thing to refresh the memory of those long-time members and bring new insight to those new members. The holiday weekend that is coming upon us has also prompted me to do so as we might not see much mod action during it.
The first thing that everyone needs to understand is that moderators, whether sales or section mods are voluntary. We don't clock-in or clock-out, have lunch breaks, or are salaried. This is not a bad thing nor am I portraying it as such. We happily do this as we have a certain je ne sais quoi for RWI, its ethos, its people, its everything.
This alone should allow members to lower their expectations. At a minimum, an understanding. But, I personally do not expect either.
When you tag or pm a moderator, you are probably taking them away from some other duty, which is why we ask you not to. If you do have an issue regarding a sale, the correct way to get assistance is via a Help Desk Ticket at RWIHELP.COM
The elephant in the room for me is weekends. Just like you all have lives and weekend plans, so do we. Is it a bank holiday or a holiday weekend where you live? It is probably one for us moderators too where we live. Patience and understanding is key. Tagging us, messaging us, sending a carrier pigeon for us will not make us get here faster. If you are in a big rush to sell something, I recommend not doing it on weekends or choose another platform to sell.
Rules. When mods enforce a rule, we are just doing that. We didn't make them. Think of the rules as A Constitution and the Moderators as the Supreme Court. We cannot change them, we can only interpret them and enforce them. We try our damn best to abide by the rules and when we strike something down, to provide you with the verbatim reason as to why it was struck down. It isn't for debate.
At this time, it is also good to remember that selling here is not a right, it is a privilege and like any other privilege, it can be taken away from you.
If you see something, say something. I stole this from TSA and Homeland Security and they're probably looking for me for theft. It would be unfair to say that us moderators are all-knowing, omnipotent. I wish we could all have that superpower, along with eyes with the potency of a looking glass. We do not and we will not. We depend on our members, who have expertise in certain brands, certain ability to see things we cannot see. I couldn't tell you if a Rolex is made by Clean or VSF, I couldn't tell you anything about Panerais. I can tell you something about Omegas, and even that knowledge is restricted. Mods rely on each other on their expertise too, but mods are not here 24/7. I still cannot tell when an ETA is gen or not, I rely on Raddave for that, you catch my drift. Don't feel any particular way if a member chimes in (it has to be a respectful challenge, though), not only they mean no harm, they also believe in RWI, its ethos and all that.
It is easier to say mea culpa and we can work with you to fix whatever needs to be fixed at any time. We don't want more work and we don't want you to be troubled.
A final housekeeping note, @SalesBot doesn't work. Hasn't worked for years. Please reply "SOLD" and we'll mark it as such. If you do not write the word SOLD, I cannot see it when I search for it.
Some say being a mod is a thankless job. I can say for myself and some that it isn't, and the extent moderators and admins go to to ensure your safety and that you are not scammed goes beyond words in my vocabulary. We appreciate every single one of you, whether in good or bad terms. Nothing here is ever personal, that should be the first thing anyone who joins should acknowledge.
Anyway, off I go to polish off the RWI Gulfstream Jet Fleet before I get reported for this dribble.
Long live RWI and each of you, we would not be here if it was not for you.
