Hey guys,

I've been lurking around the darkside for months, finally getting my first rep watch.

So, I'm a student at Harvard University, in Boston. No I'm not rich, I'm on a full scholarship. I am an economics major here but since childhood I used to take watches apart and see how they work. But of course I can't afford Rolexes or Pateks so I go for the next best thing.

I'm very interested in the history of watches and also the accuracy of keeping time. My love is Patek, Chronoswiss and A Lange and Sohne. But I do tend to lean towards the Rolexes and Pams.

If you could give a brief intro of yourself it would be great. Don't have to though. Just letting you guys know that I'm here to stay. And if anyone is in or around the boston area let me know.

Cheers

Hi parisman... Welcome to the Dark Side. In contrast with your nickname, you're actually living in Boston  Hope you'll like to hang around here and please feel free to participate in the discussion.

Have you read Longitude by Dava Sobel? I think you would find it a good read given your interest in accurate timekeeping and mechanics. Enjoy!

Yup I've read it and my rep was a rolex, a black dial dayjust with ETA but I had it with a dark red leather since I don't like the SS.

Welcome: my degrees are also in Economics, so if you want to shoot the breeze about monetarism, the Laffer curve [I know Art personally], Hayek, through to Kahneman & Tversky - I'm your 'watch buddy.'!:)

Cheers,

hi parisman , welcome! :)

im a retired aerospace/rocket science engineer[ not the scientist, i translated thier ideas into hardware] im on the other end of life from u:) im 76 YO:)
my latest and most abiding love is Rubys Marina which i concieved [ with enzos inspiration] and Ruby built for me :) i still like the omega "Bond" and the connie Double Eagle , and my pvd Seiko5 superior:). all lovely watches I avoid rolly reps [or gens if i could afford 1, but im retired ], like the plague as im sick of the whole rolly scene , from everyones attitude of " ists a fake" to "look i got a rolex !" I know my viewpoint is not popular here but ICCL :) yes my first 3 reps were rollys but they are all long gone , never to return . i MIGHT consider a Tudor as most dont know they are less expensive rollys or better yet get a custom dial with the rolex branding removed. Its not that i dont like the watches,[altho they are very light and small compared to a 47 mm fiddy:)], i just dont like the whole rolex fake scene ! you will notice that my Marina has NO topside branding , nor will my next homage [ a mini fiddy with a calfornia dial , again directly inspired by enzo :) yes they are branded panerai on the back , but i have to take the watch off for anyone to see it :) if they dont know what a panerai is, then im really happy :) if asked , i will say truthfully , its a panerai homage that i had custom built :) if i could get my name on the dial, i would lol Maybe sign it with a real gold pen lol. But this is unlikely as i dont work on watches in any way since im very sight impaired in my right [ master] eye from malacular degeneration and my left hand dosent want to follow directions after my mini stroke, all related to my high blood preassure so take care of yourselves :) :).

to be honest, i got in as a draftsman directly from 3 years

of college thru my dads influence :) lol He worked @ Aerojet General, as a chief project engineer . he got me on as a draftsman [no i didnt work for him ] In 40 years i worked myself up to chief engineer , in chargeof R&D at Pacific Scientific and a bunch of various patents . just hard work and persistance and dumb luck:) yes luck did play a part, both in getting my first job and later opportunities . i did change jobs frequently, in various branches of engineering for versatility . that was both good and bad , as i have no retirement other than SS but made a lot of money , but also lost a ton in 3 divorces lol i do survive tho :)
if im frugal i can get a rep or homage [swiss ETA] every 2 months :)
yes im a happy guy and I love smilies :) see!
i have 3 reps and the upcomeing minni fiddy will make the 4th and last , altho I may churn 2 for variety[ but not the heritage homages :)] , I dont have 4 arms :) if i could , i would take the omega branding off the face of my beloved omegas . i love them , but not because they are omegas. These ETA creations can stand on thier own merits as great watches ! I firmly believe they represent 1,000$ worth of Value each, compared to overpriced gens ! :) VIVA LE REPS :)
