Lack of Participation!

I don't mean this to be a finger pointing post, I want this forum to be whatever each individual hopes to get from it. The thing I find so surprising is the lack of participation by the bulk of the members. From time to time I find things will be running a little slow on here and there will be 3 or 4 of us commenting, then you look at the bottom of the board index and there is anywhere fron 200 to 400 people online.

This never ceases to amaze me. If someone does not want to participate that is fine. I just find it interesting that there can be so many folks on here with nothing to contribute. You will find that when you start to participate and comment in the threads you will start to develop friendships with some of the other people on here and it really makes it interesting. The next step is to attend a get together, or, GTG. That was a great experience for me.

So step up guys, post a picture of your new watch or collection. Tell us about your experience buying your first rep. Hell, half the fun for me was trying to figure out how to take a picture of a watch that didn't totally suck. ( I am actually still working on that aspect of the hobby! ) :D I know there has to be some people with something of interest to share. Go for it.

I see that too. I sort of understand. Some just want to peruse for info. It does take a lot of work to put together reviews and stuff. But I would like to see more watch pics. It's better than porn. :p

Nice watch!

Kidding aside, I've noticed this too.

Whenever I ask a PAM related question it's always Hooligan or Balbola who answer my questions (very detailed). But I wish more people would join in...

Right now I'm sitting around.. watching desperate housewives... waiting for some home made ice cream to cool.

Gentleman:

I appreciate that you notice all of us floating around and want noob's to take an active role in the board, but you've so many guides and reviews that good noob's like myself are reading before we start asking "what's the best rep?" type of questions.

I'm happy to say i've been on the site for a few weeks trying to get a full understanding of the two watches I like from Omega and Panerai, and while I want to participate, I'd prefer to start asking questions with a little bit of background knowledge so you all can see that I'm not just here to leach info and bail. I'll say this, the learning curve is steep and while I was going to purchase a watch a few weeks ago, I'm now researching everything (and rereading everything) a few times because of all the great info on this board.

Thanks,

Greg

I've noticed it too over the last five months or so. Some of this cyclical, some is the time of year. It's so nice out right now I don't feel like coming on, on the weekends, some is the lack of new reps. This has been a fairly slow year for new models. The super reps are fine just not a lot of them. I think some of it is dilution of the "regulars" base that drives the banter.

Re: Lack of Participation

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I'm spending more and more of my time on a new hobby. And for those of you who are interested, my new hobby (which I highly recommend for everyone) is doing lines of blow off the bodies of dead hookers. Very invigorating. I'm even thinking of starting a website. Does anyone know if http://www.ilovedoinglinesofblowofftheb ... ookers.com is already registered?

You are so right. It seems like the most active are those trying to increase there post count in order to sale watches. That's annoying the sh^&t out of me.

Ron, I could not agree more. I will log on and find all these old threads from months or sometimes years ago filling the new posts file.

i read more than i post, however you're point is well taken....the forum is only as good as the contributions of its members.....that said, i am going to make an effort to post more just as long as it adds to the discussion....

RWI is a forum thats been around the block a couple times, certain things that went on during its 'hey day' have been hard for the forum to recover from....look at RWG1...the king of the forums, still around but with only a handfull of active members....there is always something new and fresh and RG is it today....but like them all, that will change....what can ya do....

TRC is a ghost town and rwgjr is headed in that path,so could be worse.... :|

You are right Dave, but this is a different situation. There is little going on but there will be anywhere from 150 to 500 people logged on. There are 172 on right now!

Members online means members who have been on the site, either browsing or posting in the last 45 or 90 minutes... i want to say it's 45 but I'm not sure..

suffice it to say, when it says X amount of people, its fairly close to how many are on at the moment you are seeing that stat...

That really wouldn't have any effect though... if they don't come around then they are as good as forgotten....

Yeah.. we need a lot more "nice watch" posts before we can be "it" .. lol

When you hear something long enough , over and over.. .people start to beleive it.
Classic example posted above, and people are realizing it more and more that what they were told just was not the case. Living on someone else's opinion isnt fun.
Best way to build something new and make it succeed is to tear down what's good, tried and true and then suddenly develop "offended syndrome"... lol...

You can search this post and find ones exactly like it during every summer. Plus, not much rolling out of replica world. Most of our members are pretty advanced and seasoned replica veterans that do not feel the need to post for the simple pleasure of posting. "great watch" "wow, that really glows" "great deal!" lol...

As an old friend would say... "what to do nephew?"

We are doing ok even after a catastrophic event last year which left ZERO links on search engines back to RWI which really hurt membership. Now,, over the last month... getting back on track. (all links were broken and then deleted because we switched directories from /forum/ to /phpBB3/ and it really hurt us).

The membership list has been cut 3 times since last October. We had to deal with emails from people unhappy when they did try to log back in and view an old pm which is now gone.

What I would like to see is more first watch pictures and initial impressions. Or how you found us. I think after the first new topic post it is much easier to get involved. I have no problem with the folks that do not want to participate, I am just so surprised how many are on at any given time and how few jump in.
