This isnt my usual style of watch... but for my 12th Panerai i was keen on something a little different.
With the recent release of the kw v3 1xxx series it was finally time to give a 42mm a shot.
I was luck enough to receive it the day after spending time with the gen 1392.
First things first, its not a bad rep. CG is too large for the 42mm (its obviously a modified 44mm one) but at wrist length the difference its barely noticeable. You will see it on inspection though.
Its thicker than the gen. It sits the same height as the new 44mm versions (15.65 from memory). The gen 42's run a but thinner both on this model and the previous. It comes in just under 14mm. It makes a huge difference on the wrist. The gen is also noticeably lighter. A lot of this may be strap related though.
I was originally worried about the blue second hand. It wasnt working for me and i thought it would limit strap choice. In real life though, gen and rep its a nice feature and doesnt detract from the watch. Pics with several straps included for your own reference.
All in all its a reasonable rep. Dial printing is good. Case isnt bad with a nicely polished sheen and no sharp edged. Inscriptions are pretty good but still arent as sharp as zf. Ecru dial colouring is almost perfect. Like all kw pam crystals AR is good but it isnt quite as clear as some other makers or gen. Like all KW strap isnt the best. Asso is usable (though not gen colour). Fake croc is awful.
If you are after super reps this isnt the one for you. If you like pam's but the old 1950's cases were simply too big then this might be a good fit. It wears obviously smaller but still feels like a panerai.
Honestly though the gen was amazing. The weight / proportions were spot on. If they could have repped it closer id have a couple of these in my collection. In fact im seriously considering buying one.
