Hello!
Yesterday I got KW 312 v2 ST2555 from Amanda(kuvarsit).I started to make a review, but noticed that the crystal is not a sapphire at all..
I've checked this in dimond store - the tester didn't find sapphire(Also, I compared 3 watches - Invicta 8926(mineral) vs KW 312 v2 (looks like mineral) vs Raymon Weil 4476-st-00650 (sapphire and tester confirmed that too)
I didn't make the photos in dimond store, but at home I made a simple test:

Well, why kuvarsit-watch.com listed this as SAPPHIRE?

Safe to say it is the dealer and not KW?
It's one of my shortlisted watch and surely a concern!

I think it's the factory. Not the dealer, it's unlikely that kw or v6f making two bunches of watch that one with sapphire for the td, and other with mineral for non td.

As TD said v3 has the same case as v1 and v2. The difference in movement only

Anyway I think it would be interesting if someone with the same batch did this test.It would not be the first time that factories introduce changes in their reps without telling the dealers.

Just knock the crystal softly with your nail... Mineral had higher pitch than sapphire..

Can you explain that methodology and how you could determine the pitch if you don't have any prior reference?

I believe I read this tip somewhere before in the forum, did a search and here you go.

http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php?p=1025145

Most of us have few watches in hand, I believe... Do this comparison among them, the mineral glass tend to return a very noticeable higher pitch sound.

Thank you for the link. I read it to its completion, including the related links and came upon this nugget of knowledge from Wiz:

Nice video and effort here! :D

The only problem is that I'm affraid none of these tests actually work.

The water drop thing is widely known to be a myth, I personnaly tested in and got the same result you had on sapphire with 3 out of 7 mineral crystals. This is no surprise since not all crystals, mineral or sapphire, are polished to the same grain. Not even talking about potential coatings.

About the noise test, I'm affraid this will mostly be affected by the thickness of the crystal and the way it sits on the watch. Here again I tried it myself and could tell differences between some crystals, but there wasn't sapphires on one side and minerals on the other.

You can test a sapphire very simply and reliably using a diamond tester, which can be bought on the internet for under $20.

Oh, and not crapping here, just trying to prevent false ideas to spread.... and at the same time to leave the door open for naughty factories to sell us sapphire and give us mineral. :)

Hi mysterio, sorry if it looks like I'm spreading false and unproven method. My sincere apology. [emoji29]

For the record, i was doing some reading about this mineral vs sapphire few weeks back i think , searched the forum and several threads showed relevant results. Read through them (they are short, usually 1-2pages only) and found few members suggesting the same noise testing method. Some members found it useful and workable.

I tested it on one of my tag Heuer canal Street rep which I bought few years back, knew well it comes with a mineral crystal. The sound was indeed higher pitch. So I was happy with the method....

Now, never really thought that factories can actually manipulate us by adding the thickness to the mineral glass... My bad, really... Will keep that in mind.

Response from KW over on RWG:

Response from KW over of RWG:

Hello dear friend

Thanks for your doubts.

This is the first issue about glass, our test as below, we can full refund to you ( when watch is retured) if any third party organization proved it's mineral (not sapphire).

PS: "red" light means with sapphire
"green" light mean no sapphire (mineral)

We take in good faith that if factory says sapphire then we believe it will be.Thanks.

Best regards,
kuvarsit
