kuvarsit slashing prices of existing 8 days luminors?

Dunno if anyone here's noticed, but up on kuvarsit's website, all the 8 days luminor models (510, 511, 560 etc) have been reduced in price by at least $100? maybe they're clearing stock to make way for incoming new batch of 8 days luminors with the updated case and dial/hands?

Supermirrors started "dumping" them about 6 weeks ago, sparking the rumor a new case might be in the pipeline. Given the speed at which new Panerais are being repped I would not be surprised.

Current 8 days models are very well built and finished reps, and at that price I would buy at least one (if I did not have it already that is )

I picked up a 563 and 564 since I didn't have a white or titanium Luminor. For about $400 shipped for the pair I am very happy.

EVALUATION: (*) FIRST CLASS REP low level (KW decorated P.5000)
The gen PAM 560 Luminor Base 8 days power reserve was presented as Q-series in SIHH 2014. PAM 560 has black sandwich dial and SS case completely polished except CG which is brushed.
It is like the successor or the evolution of PAM 112 Luminor, has a similar 44mm Luminor case and similar sandwich dial, just similar because the case-set has some differences and numeral markers are different (fonts are a bit wider and with different shape).
It was presented in 2014 together with four more similar Panerais Luminor 8 days PR. And they were added at the couple of PAM 8 days introduced in 2013: PAM 510 and 511. The complete 2013-214 PAM 8 days series is as follows:

PAM 560- Polished SS-Luminor Base-Evolution of PAM 112
PAM 510- Polished SS-Luminor Marina (secs. @9)-Evolution of PAM 111
Brown dials
PAM 511- Polished Red Gold-Luminor Base–Is like a PAM 510 but in Red Gold

It was also presented in 2014 a special watch 8 days but very different from all 8 days above mentioned: The PAM 590 a Luminor Marina (seconds @9) with solid caseback with pig engraved, black dial, sausage creamy lume and “8 Giorni Brevettato” historic circular vintage logo.
These new Luminor 8 days have a great difference in relation with their predecessors: They are fitted with a new totally “in-house” movement, called P.5000, with a power reserve of 8 days, instead of a Unitas-based movement 3 days like Pam 111 and similar Luminor Panerai watches. The movement is visible through the sapphire crystal of a nice display caseback.
This new manually wound movement is made completely in-house and has a power reserve of 8 days. This feature is an homage to the old Angelus-made 8-day watches. Even its size is reminiscent of the old movements, in a full 15.75 lignes (35.7mm) - the Angelus was a 16 ligne movement. The P.5000 has a structure similar to the old style movements, with most details hidden from the eye. All you can see on the P.5000 through the display caseback, besides the brush finished and diamond-polished plates, are the balance cock, the intermediate wheel, and a variable inertia balance wheel. P.5000 movement 8 days power reserve is obtained by connecting in series two barrels. This dual system allows the use of longer and thinner springs wound to the benefit of the length and uniformity of energy distribution. P.5000 movement has 21 jewels, 127 components and a frequency of 3 Hz. The P.5000 has no quick reset seconds hand feature like the P.2000 movement. This movement varies significantly from the other in-house manually wound calibers in this price range.

GEN PAM 560 TECHNICAL DETAILS
MOVEMENT-Hand-wound mechanical, Panerai P.5000 calibre, executed entirely by Panerai, 15¾ lignes, 4.5 mm thick, 21 jewels, Glucydur® balance, 21,600 alternations/hour. KIF® Parechoc anti-shock device. Power reserve 8 days, two barrels. 127 components.
FUNCTIONS- Hours, minutes.
CASE-Diameter 44 mm, AISI 316L polished steel.
BEZEL- Polished steel.
BACK- See-through sapphire crystal.
DEVICE PROTECTING THE CROWN- (protected as a trademark) Brushed steel.
DIAL- Black with luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers.
CRYSTAL- Sapphire, made of corundum, 2.5 mm thick. Anti-reflective coating.
WATER-RESISTANCE- 30 bar (~ 300 metres).

May 2014- KW released a replica marked P-series of PAM 511, using a decorated A-6497-2 movement. This decorated movement has not inverted layout like other decorated movements but has the Balance wheel @11 (like 6497 mvmt.) instead of @7 like gen.
The movement in these replicas is the decorated KW V2, which has been improved in relation to KW V1, with better jewels shape and some more accurate bridges including balance cock. Differences are not big but they are enough to get a more accurate movement. See below pics:

KW V2 DECORATED A6497-2 MOVEMENT LIKE P.5000 – WATCHES PLACED IN THE SAME POSITION (In order to see the different placement of movements)

In above pics both watches are placed in the same position (see CGs green encirled). We can see the different placement of the whole movement and the Balance wheels @7 and@11.
This decorated movement is a very good step to get the P.5000 appearance and for a no trained eye it is almost impossible to see differences in a no side by side comparison. In below pics Gen watch is turned to match gen and rep movement position (see CGs green encircled in different positions). In this way we can compare the movements in parallel. You can see there is a great similarity

KW V2 DECORATED A6497-2 MOVEMENT LIKE P.5000 – GEN WATCH IS TURNED TO MACTH MOVEMENT POSITIONS (In order to see the similarity of decorated movement with gen)

Anyway there are differences as follows:
-Decorated KW A-6497 movement has not, obviously, 8 days of Power reserve
-Balance wheel position @ 11 instead of @7 (as above said)
-Replica has a conventional “big” 6497 Balance wheel, whereas gen has a little variable inertia balance wheel. This difference is the most noticeable in the rep movement.
-Balance cock (the bridge with the Incabloc over the BW), although has been improved to V2, has very different shape and Incablock support in the rep due to necessities of 6497 movement. This is also noticeable but a bit more accurate than in V1 version.
-Some differences in bridges shape and jewels placements due to a different movement of base.
-Although the finish of rep bridges is very good, as usually in KW decorations, gen bridges have nicer, more uniform and more fine brushed and the edges are better defined and bevelled and mainly more nicely polished. Anyway the rep appearance in real size is awesome and reaches a gen-like level more than acceptable.
-Inscriptions on bridges have good finish, but are thicker and not as nice as gen. Due to the structure of 6497 movement, the rep inscriptions are placed clearly outwards, for this reason they are a bit bigger than gen to get the same appearance and not to leave longer spaces between prints. But this is only noticeable in side by side comparisons, because the inscriptions are not inverted like in P.9000 decorations.
Anyway, this is one of the most accurate (in appearance, because it has not the Power Reserve of the gen) of rep decorated movements on first quarter 2014, together with KW P.2002/9 fitting KW PAM 346, even superior in appearance to clone P.3000 of PAM 372 (but this movement has a PR close to the gen).
Regarding old Luminor 44mm case-set fitting this watch, KW version is already well known and with a very good reputation of awesome finish, solid gen-like appearance and some inaccuracies in lugs as all rep Luminor case-sets at this moment. Unfortunately, the case-set of gen 8 days series is a bit different from the old Luminor 44mm. The new 8 days P.5000 movement is thinner than old Unitas 6497-2, this smaller thickness allows a thinner case in the new gen 8 days series, with different lugs shape, new bezel also is thinner but with wider base, and the crystal is almost flush with the bezel. KW is using for its 8 days replicas the same case-set and crystal as “old” Luminor 44mm. It is no easy to see the differences without knowing them and without a side by side comparison, but they exist.

Layout , markers and inscriptions on dial are accurate.
Rep hands are Pre-V type whereas gen hands are modern type, being located on the dial is a serious issue for a replica.
Caseback is also nice, with deep engravings and sapphire display. This replica, unlike KW V1 models, has already the engraving of the de serial number, but it is P-series whereas gen starts in Q-series. This is a visible flaw.
It is a shame because the watch is very well manufactured and gets an impressive level of quality and gen-like appearance, but these flaws avoid a higher First Class rep evaluation, since the decorated movement avoids previously a Super rep evaluation.
Very good first class watch and just a First Class low level grade replica due to wrong hands, wrong serial number engraving a bit inaccurate case-set and bevelled of crystal.

May 2014- Puretime announces that ZFac is working in a PAM 510 with corrected case-set. As above said Frist KW releases of 8 days PAM reps came with the same case-set as old Luminor 44mm. Therefore this new 8days ZFac version, always following Puretime indications, will be way closer to gen. Besides, Puretime says that this new ZFac Pam 510 will be fitted with a real 8 days movement without more explanations. The release is expected in about three four months. Since new PAM 8 days 510-511-560-561 and 563 have the same caseset and movement we should also expect new versions of all these watches.
