So like many of us we're out looking for the 'best sub'
I've bought several versions but never quite happy with any of them.
I decided to go with a modded one...and who better to do the mods than our Sub expert...BK!
PROJECT PARTS & MODS:
1. Modern MBW 16610 Submariner
2. Swap out the insides with an ETA noobmariner for the better hands/dial/et (had to buy a noob)
3. CGs trimmed
4. Jewelryoutlet insert, milled, so it sits inside the bezel
5. Watchmaterial pearl
6. Bezel teeth sanded down
7. Bring out the bezel lip
8. Used a noob clasp on the MBW bracelet (due to springbar issues, difficult to put a noob bracelet on)
All of work went into this by BK, and he used it as a tutorial on the above mods:
You can check out the nitty gritty work that
was involved. Titled: Beautifying a current MBW 16610
viewtopic.php?f=117&t=33125
SOME DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MBW & NOOB:
1. slightly too deep rehaut versus shallower rehaut
2. MBW has thicker bottom bezel vs. noob
3. CGs on noob is better than MBW (normal not slanted)
4. bezel click on MBW is different than a noob
5. noob bracelet more correct than solid link MBW bracelet
WHICH WATCH IS BETTER IN TERMS OF MODDING TO THE 'PERFECT SUB':
I have been told that the noobmariner overall is a better base watch to begin with as a modding watch. It has
a great frontal look; nice deep/cylindrical rehaut; better CGs;perfect dial, etc
Quote from BK: "the noob rehaut thickness and crystal construction give a more gen front look"
FOR ALL OF YOU WITH NOOBS: take a look from the front...it does have a great rehaut thickness...and check out
that dark ring...a great look! So appreciate your NOOB!
SO WHY DID I GO WITH THE MBW? AM I AN IDIOT? DO I JUST WANT TO BLOW MORE MONEY?
1. deeper rehaut
2. and the biggest reason....I love the bezel on the MBW. I like the thickness of it...particularly the bottom portion.
As well the bezel click mechanism vs. the noob. Is it worth it? Well that is up to personal taste. I paid double by going the MBW route. Just the feel of the bezel....the look of the bezel...the clicking of the bezel...it feels so substantial. In my opinion, a more gen feel and look with the thicker bezel.
ITS IN THE DETAILS:
Guys...if you have a noob or MBW, its so worth the $46 for the jewelryoutlet insert ($15) and watchmaterial glossy pearl ($31)
I love love love the look of the insert recessed inside of the bezel, with the lip sticking out. Take a look at your out of box sub...usually the insert is sort of floating on top of the bezel.
I also enjoyed the numerous emails between BK and I. I've learned so much throughout the process. I can't thank him enough. I also want to give a shout out to Nite who I bought the MBW from....all the way from Slovenia and just a gentleman throughout. And of course to D4M and the crew for bringing this forum together and connecting all of us.
FOR PEEPS LOOKING FOR THE PERFECT SUB:
BK will begin rolling out fully modded noob subs. For half of what I paid you can finally put a Sub on your wrist that is so close to the gen. Look for it when his section gets back up.
Anyways...some quick & dirty pics. Jiro I need your help!!!
