Hey everyone,

I'm new to the forum and also new to the hobby. After making my first purchase this past weekend from a friend I know through work, I instantly became hooked! I’m loving my new 300 SLR but have no idea how too work this thing. I may have already made a few mistakes from what I’ve been reading such as never adjust the time in a counter-clockwise direction. Also, when I pull the middle crown out too adjust the time, it only makes one click instead of the two I’ve been reading on these forums about other Tag watches. Too adjust the date, you press the bottom button and it just cycles through the numbers everytime it’s pressed. Not too sure what the top button does yet? Also, when I did set the time yesterday, I noticed later in the evening that my watch was running almost 30 minutes fast!!

The "Second" hand doesn't tick nor sweeps but rather like a fast ticking constantly moving. If I set my watch down for a few hours, the ticking stops and clock stops overall since I guess I'm not moving around with the watch anymore. Someone said I need too wind the watch for 3 minutes or something but I'm not too sure what they mean by this.

I’m leaving to Florida this weekend and would love too swim with my watch on but I’m terrified because the reviews on doing so are very conflicted and inconsistent.

Finally, I paid $160 for this watch which I hope isn’t too bad. I plan on buying many more but from a TD in the future. Not sure which TD my friend purchased this from.

Thanks everyone and hope you enjoy my pics!

Look, man. Don't swim with a chronograph. If it's a gen that's brand new or been serviced, then it's okay. Never with a rep chrono. I have a Deep Blue chrono (purpuse built for water) that I was wary of swimming with until I did the seals.
Is your watch anA7750 or A21j?

Nice pickup!

Definitely read and absorb as much as you can so that you can understand the inner workings (and nuances) of your new wristbling.

That's a faux chronograph 21j. You may have overpaid for that, yes. Sorry. But glad your here to learn.

Here is the gen. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tag-Heuer-Carrera-300-SLR-Brown-Dial-Chronograph-Mens-Watch-CAR2112FC6267-/150791041516?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item231bd8b1ec

Wow I love the leather strap on that watch! How do I go about switching out my band to one similar on the Gen? Or does a Rep exists exactly like the Gen with that band and 7750 movement?

I may have overpaid but don't feel bad. It's my first one and I'm in love with it. Plus I've heard many other stories where noobs learned the hard way or got scammed and glad that didn't happen to me, yet!

How does one tell if its a 7750 or 21j?

Also does anyone know of a link to a video tutorial on how to accurately set the time on these watches and whether or not I need to wind my watch for 3 minutes?

Thank you all!

***UPDATE*** Just got my watch serviced and all is good now.

Quick question guys: If I understand these watches correctly, they are powered by movements. Someone earlier in this thread said my watch is a 21J and I'll learn more about this shortly but my problem is how come the watch stopped working? Here are specifics...

If I don't wear it for a few days I'll notice the time isn't right because it's not being powered by movements anymore so I actually wind the watch for about a minute or two without pulling out the middle bezel. Once I do that, I'm usually good to go and the watch works fine.

Now it stops almost after just one minute and I'm noticing that the half circular thing in the back of the watch that moves around in circles is getting stuck (metal piece that says TAG Heuer 1887 Swiss Made). It only loosens up when I wind the watch even a tiny bit but then gets stuck right away unless I'm winding the middle bezel backwards. This just started so I'm wondering if it's an easy fix or not.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Your watch is a 21j because you said it has faux chronos. If the chronos did work, the watch would need a 7750 movement to power the chronos. The 7750 has the Ability to control more functions on a watch, but its generally more expensive than a 21j movement. Your watch is automatic self winding meaning no battery. Winding the watch gives it a power reserve, and wearing it should wind the watch by your natural arm movements. If you dont wear the watch it will stop because it is not being wound The (movement) is the mechanism that controls the time

Thank you so much for that info. I never knew the difference between the two movements. The only chrono that moves with the time is the top hour one to tell me the hour of day in military time. The bottom chrono only moves when I press one of the side buttons, forgot which one though but I stopped messing with the buttons because maybe that's what screwed up my movement overall in the first place. What is the bottom chrono for anyways?

In regards to my movement getting stuck, well I got it serviced about a month ago and now the thing is flawless, loving it again. Thanks again for your previous input!

About the straps. Check out ebay sellers watchstrapworld and squinky. Squinky has the best quality imho, but watchstrapworld is cheaper.
