Coating will come off but try not to bang the watch around and pretend it's a gen. PVD naturally comes off but if you take care of it, it should last you long enough to where you probably won't care about the watch anymore :]
Not necessarily so. Well, NOTHING is indestructible, but I had a Chopard MM GTXL in PVD that never had so much as a scratch. I do take good care of my watches, but it was worn quite a bit. PVD is pretty tough, especially compared to plating.

Hmm maybe the Chopards have better PVD? Not sure. I have some old off branded gens that had (black) and it started to show "pitting." I did bang it up though so that could be it. Thanks though :] Personally I'm not really a fan of any type of plated watches. They just look so ugly once the plating comes off, but are quite nice when they are new.
Not trying to discourage OP here, do what Anopsis said and you'll be golden.
