The old man gave me this today. It was a gift from my late mom and he thought that since he doesn't use it anymore (the old man is turning towards newer slimmer quartz Longines), he let me have it.

It's a quartz movement Porsche Design made by IWC. Ti 36" casing and strap. A classic addition to my collection. Though I'd never wear a watch this small, I'd like to keep this for my kid. I'd tell them about their grandmom when I do that...

A little read-up taken from http://www.chronomaster.co.uk

The Porsche Design company was founded by Ferdinand Porsche, a design guru, who designed not only cars, but many other stylish everyday items. Today, Porsche Design continue with their trend setting designs and fashion products from cars, to watches, to leather luggage, sunglasses, cigarette lighters and a plethora of other everyday items. They only manufacture the cars, the other items they leave to manufacturing experts in their relevant field.

So far there have been three companies that Porsche have commissioned to manufacture their watches. They started with Orfina, then IWC and currently it is Eterna. IWC are by far the most prestigious watch maker to win this contract. The case and bracelet are constructed from titanium, a material which is more than twice as difficult to machine than stainless steel, but half as light. Titanium is also fully corrosion proof, anti magnetic, does not irritate the skin as it is a very pure metal and it extraordinarily tough. For these reasons, titanium is widely used in space travel, aircraft construction and surgery.

This chronograph has fully integrated push buttons, is impact resistant and is waterproof to a depth of 60 metres. It is protected by a tough sapphire crystal. At the heart of this watch is a mechanical chronograph movement with analogue display, which owes it’s extreme accuracy to two miniature quartz controlled stepper motors. It is one of the movements often referred to as a hybrid – quartz watch with mechanical chronograph.

The chronograph acts as a mechanical chronograph should do with solid clicking buttons as the levers need to be mechanically engaged. The central sixty second hand has a smooth sweep action like on an automatic watch. When reset, it snaps back to zero in a mechanical snap action. The thirty minute and 12 hour elapsed timer advance smoothly like the hour hand on the time. The watch seconds however tick like a quartz watch as it is only the chronograph which is mechanical and the watch which is quartz. This watch has the hybrid quartz/mechanical movement Comes with box, outer box, instruction booklet, full size bracelet and bracelet changing tool. Stylish piece of watch making history. Width is 36 mm excluding the crown and 39 mm including crown. Lug to lug is 43 mm and the thickness is 19 mm Ref: IWC 10

Jeez... I didn't realize what this watch symbolizes to the watch world... Beginning to appreciate it more!

I'd like to learn more about this watch! Anyone has any more bit of history on this watch?

Well... it all revolves around money :p

It's a pity.... It's among last batch of IWC that uses Jaeger Le-Coultre movement.

Ok. Advice taken. I've not thought of selling this anyway. Like the Lady DJ she left me, this watch reminds me of Mom.

I suppose it does. It's only been serviced at IWC service center. I've been personally sending it for service for the old man for years.

Well... IWC doesn't overcharge when servicing. Unlike Panerai and Rolex.

Indeed.. JLC mecaquartz. Chrono module is mechanic. 25 jewel (w/ moonphase).
