IWC case issue

After doing the graphite fix, I am installing a gen dial on my IWC portuguese chrono. I cant get the bezel back on. It is attached from the caseback with screws, but they wont engage. The screws engage in the bezel, so I know that they are not stripped, and the dial fits the case, so I know that the size is OK. So what gives? Any help?

Have you compared the original and gen dials for thickness?

Yes, the thickness is the same. I even put the rep dial back on and no go. Everything fits, and the gasket seats correctly.
