Afternoon all , I did post my 1st question about a week ago but not sure what happened as I’ve not had a response, anyway what I am looking for is a Rolex date just diamond bezel rhodium face with battons for her indoors, she got on the waiting list at the AD in February and got the call up 2 weeks ago unfortunately it wasn’t this watch that she’d asked for and was £3000 more , and to be fair I wasn’t blown away by it. Now I have a 6 watch collection so far all gen. A lad comes in the pub who sells reps he had a yacht master 2 44mm which looked half decent for £130 which is a bit more expensive but better quality than off the “Asda price” price chaps on Tenerife front. I’ve checked the TDs and emailed trustytime, who I have to say very impressive response to my question. So to that question in a few parts the date just with diamond bezel I cannot find any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated or do any of you folks have one to recommend? Finally I want a white dial explorer 2 which trusty has and recommended gsf factory at a still reasonable $498 despite the state of the pound at the moment.
Again I’m very impressed with trusty so far but would anyone else have a different recommendation for the explorer 2. Ps I’m guessing the difference between the reps at $298 and $498 is the same as the difference between the lucky lucky men and my mate down the pub?
Many thanks and apologies to anyone outside of the uk who cannot understand half I have written.

I can’t even begin to decipher what is going on here, haha. I jest. It sounds like you are looking for this style? Link below. Is this the one?

Thanks for trying but 41mm to large and they do appear a bit expensive for a rep.
Cheers though I was beginning to think my posts weren’t posting

Sure thing, to answer your earlier question, the difference between your mid tier renditions and top priced ones are quality of lettering / printing / movement and composition of materials. For example 305 vs 440 steel. The differences are subtle at first, yet very realized under close inspection.

I suppose the best way to explain it is that their are 3 tiers. Acceptable, good, and wonderful. After owning wonderful, there is no going back.

Also, I do see a ladies version in rhodium, however it appears to have a floral pattern on it.

Yes she’s only got eyes for 1 watch , which I guess trying to find a unique Rolex reproduced in rep form is a big ask, I’ll just concentrate on getting my explorer 2 for now

It may be that rendition is new and could take time to show up in the form you’re looking for. You could take the path least followed and pick up the diamond bezel as shown with floral pattern, and perform a swap with the rhodium dial found in the fluted bezel also found on the same site. In fact I would venture the size and shape of both movements and dials to be the exact same size. A 30 min job to open one, remove movement with dial in place, and direct exchange. It would be a kicker of a project, however very possible.

As for your Yacht-Master search, I recommend jtime.io as a predictable and transparent vendor

You think $519 is too expensive ? How much is the gen ? I suggest you do some reading on this forum and stop looking at price. Unless you don't care what the watch looks like.

No I think 519 is ok as I’m sure you’ll have seen when you read my post and yes it’s a damn site cheaper than £16grand sat at the AD. However the 1st watch Cincinnati recommended was $1200. I have been reading up and scouting the various TDs to try and find the exact piece.
Many thanks for your reply , if you have any useful info to my post I’ll look forward to reading that.

Have you considered contacting a TD directly and asking for what you want ? That may be best for you.
I have mate , Andrew at trusty very promptly responded he recommended the GSF for my explorer but the date just seem to mostly be 28mm or 41mm diamond bezel and diamond markers, where the good lady wants rhodium dial with straight markers and diamond bezel, she went on the list at the AD in February got the call 2 weeks ago but the watch wasn’t what we ordered. Which wasn’t a great start to our 1st rolex experience. I also have my name down for a gen explorer but if I can find a very nice rep , I can put the rest of my money towards a big shed😁

One approach I liked taking when I was brand new to the rep world, was to do the research digging through threads here on the site and find the best, currently available, out of the box version of the watch I was looking for. Then I'd look at the known flaws / differences from gen, and see if I could live with the differences. In some cases I am, and in others I'm not. I want an explorer II Polar but it's a watch I really love and in that case I will be waiting for a better rep to come along, someone to build a custom rep with some gen parts, or to find a deal on one second hand.

In regards to the mid-tier vs high tier pricing and options. Others, and you, have it correct. Just as you noticed the jump from the pretty bad cheapo's to the one at the pub, it'll be pretty obvious in many cases what you're paying for. I find it's worth the difference, but ultimately it's a personal thing. Again, research will tell you what you can expect from the mid-tier stuff compared to the high tier. Often there will be extremely detailed comparisons between popular rep models that a RWI Expert will have put a ton of time into writing and photographing for and will provide all the info you could ever need to make the decision.

Understanding what you're getting, and aligning expectations with that will go a long way with making the process enjoyable. One of the expectations is should be that it's going to take a while after you order it for it to arrive. Maybe less so based on your location though actually!

Good luck!
