Is This the Best PAM00164 Version Available?

Hi,

I'm planning my first purchase in the near future and am just trying to figure out if the watch I've picked is the best copy I can get.

I've been lusting after a PAM00164 for years now, ever since a chance meeting with one in a display case on holiday, in fact I've saved up to buy a gen twice now and both times I've gotten close and real life has gotten in the way. So I've decided to take the plunge and buy a rep. Maybe it'll be the start of a new hobby, who knows?

Anyway, I've had a search about and all the TDs from here who have the model on their site seem to be selling the PAM164 0 1:1 Noob Best Edition and I just wanted to check if this was the best copy available as of right now or if anyone knew of a better version out there to be got?

Also, any recommendations on who to order from would be appreciated. I've read here on the forum that PureTime have close ties to the Noob factory which is why I've included their link above but I've also read that all the TDs can get the same watches generally and that you're generally better off choosing the TD then e-Mailing them to ask about the watch you want. In that case I was thinking of PsYcHoSPIKE as he did so well in the TD of the Year and won the Rookie Dealer of the Year for last year.

Any help or advice with this would be much appreciated, just want to do the best I can for my first rep purchase.

TIA.

You can't go wrong with either the noob 164 or pure-time... Really any of the trusted dealers can get this watch. You have to pick one, and build a relationship with them. Psycho is great too. BUT you have to wait until first week of March to order, CNY going on right now...

Excellent, thanks for taking the time to reply. Will e-Mail Spike next week then probably.

CNY has done me a favour in a lot of ways as it's stopped me jumping in and buying without reading first.

Yes, this is the best PAM 164 available at this moment and it is a nice rep

Regarding the dealer, all our TD are good enough.
Choose the dealer which meets better your requirements about communication, service, payment, shipment, catalogue, guarantee, after sales service ... etc ç
Good luck

That's great ALE, thanks for taking the time to help me out, I know you're busy (I've been reading a ton of your stuff on here today actually) and so input from you is greatly appreciated. Will get a dealer picked out ready to e-Mail next week when everyone's back after CNY. Thanks again.

Beautiful, I'm definitely ordering one of these as soon as CNY is over! Reading some TD FAQs and stuff now to figure out who's going to suit me best. Thanks for the reply, it's much appreciated.

Settled on Pure Time in the end as just seemed more user friendly (Spike uses Hotmail who for some reason assassinate my e-Mails on sight [don't even junk them they just never get through]). They have a nice shiny website with pictures and stuff for me to use plus a discount for WU which I already have set up.

So order is placed, just got to wait for my turn in the queue when everyone comes back to work next week, will be sending straight off for a full service when it arrives and hopefully can have it back from that in time for our anniversary on April 26th as my wife has generously offered to buy it for me as a gift for that.

Is it wrong that I'm already looking at other PAMs? I love taking things apart and meddling with them (always have, ask my poor old Mum about any bike she was ever kind enough to buy me, to this day I'm not allowed my Rubik's cube back because of the tantrums I threw when I couldn't do it). I can't see it being long before I'm on the lookout for a base model to chop up and poke about in anyway, especially since this one hasn't ended up costing me anything bar whatever the service costs.

Thanks again for the advice in this thread. All 3 of you have been really helpful.

Hello and welcome! Glad you've spent some time reading!!
As far as servicing immediately, probably not needed here! If it were an AP sec@12 or Rolex Daytona, then yes you probably should... But, if sent away, you prob wouldn't get it back by your deadline anyway! So I vote just wear & enjoy it.

And No, it's not bad to be looking for other watches already (before your first arrives.) We all do that... Soo much fun in this hobby, and so many models to enjoy. You will probably make the second purchase before your first arrives in mail... ;)
Enjoy :)

Ok, thanks very much for the heads up there. I'd read somewhere else on the forum (can't seem to find it now but it was in one of the posts for newbies) that it was a good idea to get it done straight away in case it hadn't come in wonderful condition from the factory or been knocked about in transit - particularly for the 7750 movement.

Plus I'm lucky enough to live in the UK and it seems we have a trusted service place linked right here on the forum, will see how long the watch takes to arrive and give him a message to see how long it's likely to be gone for servicing and make a decision based on that I guess.

I plan to wear the thing every day so I'd like to know it's looked after, at least until I'm confident enough to look after it myself.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

I like 164, will order one just after CNY (most probably from Toro).

It's a beautiful watch although I have to admit that while looking for my rep I've come across several other models that I also love, I can see me ending up with a drawer full of these in the not too distant future.

Knew I'd read it somewhere and it's been driving me mad. It was this:

Replica watch factories are just that. Factories.
Their job is to produce a replica that passes for the real thing, not to re-create the real thing. This means that chances are real good that your watch will not be water proof, and may have some issues when you get it. Keep this in mind when you jump into this hobby. I highly recommend that you figure into your budget the cost of sending your watch to a watchsmith who can go through it for you to ensure all is well, and can give the seals the proper greasing they need to keep things safe. It's also a good idea to have them check the crystal to ensure it's pressed in properly and check your bracelet links to make sure they're nice and tight.

The paragraph was taken from this post which refers to buying the best possible rep in general rather than specifically a PAM.

Do you really think I'll get away with not sending it in straight away? It'd be great to not have to as it'd mean I could save a little money (probably to put toward another watch lol) and more importantly it'd be here in time for my wife to gift wrap for our anniversary which'd please her enormously.

I'd intended to have it serviced every year or so (or better yet learn how to do it for myself), do you think I could get away with waiting that long given that it's a Noob Best Edition watch and will be getting QC'd/water-proof tested by Pure Time?

Clearly you know way better than me about this stuff so I'll bow to your superior knowledge and just do whatever you recommend.

Thanks again for taking the time to look at my post, I really can't believe the excellent responses I've gotten to this thread, especially given that it's my very first post and is basically the usual dumb newbie 'where can I get the best ...?' drivel.

Also on my short list. When is CNY over?

Think the dealers were mostly coming back to work today mate.

Have ordered through the PureTime website anyway so just waiting to hear from them now with their WU details. I'd imagine there's quite a backlog of e-Mails and orders to go through before they get to me though...

One final thing - servicing isn't recc or required every year (even in the gen world.)
I’d say 3-5 is a good bet! I’ve heard from a local AD that many Rolex gens have gone 10 years or longer in between services…
Per Omega, every 4-5 years.
