Is this a normal winding action for a PAM 390?

I have a hybrid PAM 390 made by pacecar2121 with an Asian 6497 in it. I woke up this morning and the time was way off.

When I try to wind it (uncock the crown guard lever, spin the wheel up), it clicks a little and then the crown "snaps" back. Is this normal? Should I keep winding even though the crown keeps rotating back?

Sounds strange so are you saying that you can wind it a couple of clicks and no further and then the crown winds back?

Exactly. Eventually it doesn't let me wind anymore and the watch seems to be running fine, but the "rewind" confuses me.

from my experience with my 390, when it fully wound, it will resist.
when you release your grip from the crown, it will flip back slightly.
.
maybe make a video of it if necessary.
i am pretty sure plenty of PAM owner can help you solve the problem

The crown should push back when it's nearly completely wound and stop winding completely when it is. If you are experiencing the push back when you just start winding, then that is a possible issue. You did not mention specifically when you experienced the resistance so being more clear in your description would help.

I wasn't explicit, but I thought I was clear that this is how it's always been.

atgm, if your watch is not keeping time when fully wound, you probably have an issue. If however you watch was way off because you hadn't wound it and it was out of reserve, well.... That said, it is imperative not to over wind a hand wind movement like your 6497. When you reach the mainsprings capacity you will feel resistance. As you try to continue to wind and feel resistance, the crown will roll back until the click seats in the ratchet wheel. You said snap back though which worries me a little. If you are experiencing say a half of rotation of the crown or more (should be less at max wind), then you more than likely have an issue. If coupled with a watch that isn't keeping time, I'd have it looked at.

Guys, how often do I need to rewind pam111 or pam005 reps?

Keep it topped off daily. You should have a power reserve of 30-40 hours, maybe a little more or less depending on your particular movement quality, age, etc.
