Is there anything I should know before using my Daytona?

I bought this watch from Puretime watches http://www.puretimewatch.com/index.php?productID=268 and I'd like to know a few things about the watch so I don't ruin it. I tried a lot to read the tutorials, FAQs, and random threads to get as much information as I could, and thanks for listening to this newbie!

1. Question: Is there something I should do to ensure the performance of the watch that has the "seconds at six"? The reason why I ask is because mine has is like that and people complain that there's bad things with the sub-dial position like this.

2. Question: Do I only have to wind the watch one time and never have to wind the watch again? It's an automatic, but I have to wind it once in the first place, so I wonder if it's only a one time thing.

3. Question: I heard that there is something I shouldn't do about adjusting "something" while the time is between 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock. Does this apply to this watch? If so, what does it damage inside the watch?

4. Question: Is there any special care or method that I should consider when I make the watch start working for the first time?

Thank you for reading and any input is appreciated!

Wind it slowly about 30 to 40 times. As long as you contunally wear it the rotor will keep the mainspring wound. If you set it down for a day or two it will stop.

Refrain from using the chronos and if you do stop the second hand close to zero before you reset it. The centrifugal force can change the position of the second hand to where it won't reset properly. The module that is added to run the chronos is a bunch of extra gears that that movement is not made to handle. It causes many premature failures.

Never change the dat manually while the time is between 10 and 2. It can screw up the date changing mechanism if you try to change it while the automatic change is starting to take place.

Huge thanks for the information, it really helps. I'm not certain about one thing you said, what do you mean by "chronos" and "stop the second hand close to zero before you reset it"?

I have the same watch from Puretime.

If it doesn't start after you wind it, shake it from left to right for about 3-4 minutes. You may have to wind, shake, wind, shake before it starts. But once it starts, it'll continue to work as long as it's on your wrist.

Good luck.

The main thing is that you treat it like any auto watch. You need to service it immediately upon receipt. You need to run the chronos the way they're meant to be....WHEN YOU'RE TIMING SOMETHING.

And don't set the date between the hours of 10 & 2 (Sorry I couldn't help myself). :D

Is there a place I should get it serviced when I receive the watch?

Ahh, how much does a good servicing cost? Also, is there any questions I should ask to the person doing the service to make sure he/she is doing a proper job?

wow there are a ton of clever come-backs to that....

Servicing here on my rollies as fakes is $75.00 with standard lub and $125.00 with the high end lub - if that makes sense to you.

Play with the chronos all you want. Just do it while it's under warranty, if you have one. Then expect to have a nice looking paperweight. And good luck finding a local rep friendly watchsmith that will work on it. Even the 2 watchsmiths from the forums, Rex and Ziggy, will no longer work on those movements.

Do some research on that movement.

I have a couple of them. Never serviced them and they run great. you only need to wind it the first time, then slowly shake it for about a minute. then just wear it. If you stop wearing it and put it back on, just shake it for a minute or so again and wear it. I have used the chrono's but only sparingly because the movement is sort of mickey mouse with all the extra gears. As for the date......what date?

Yeah, I wasn't aware that the "something" I mentioned in the first post was actually the date which this watch doesn't have. Do you guys think it's ok to wear the watch as a daily? Also, aside from a dark alley in a bad neighborhood, is there other places I shouldn't wear a watch like this? Thanks!

I'd avoid wearing it when going to authorized Rolex dealers for one. Rolex get togethers might also not be the best place.

Damn Doc, where do I send the $5?

P.S. Just because your watch doesn't have a date window doesn't mean the 2836-2 or 7750 doesn't have a date wheel on the inside.
