Currently considering buying a white dial Panerai and after reading ALE7575's Guide thread, Pam499 looks like the best choice for me.
But from the Guide thread, KP9000-Seagull V2 is the best opinion, but I can only find Pam 499 with Asian 23J. Could anyone tell me are these 2 movements the same?

I searched google, and you know what? It led me back here.

Anyway, in a nutshell, they are the same. The Seagul ST2555 is made by an Asian company and has 23 jewels, so Asian 23J. ;) It's also sometimes denoted by indicating the watch is a Lite version, which is nothing of the sort. Ah, factories and dealers, how they love to confuse us. Hahaha

I have had nothing but good experiences with Sea-gull movements. I have a few (gen) Chinese watches using ST1901 and ST8000 movements and I have found them all to be solid and dependable (and the ST1901s have even turned out to be good timekeepers). That's not to say I would trust all Sea-gulls, but then I always go through a guy who I know and trust and that gives me peace of mind. It's a simple extension of the old 'buy the seller' mantra: you might end up with a lemon regardless of which company manufactured the movement and then you'll want to know that you can depend upon the seller to make things right.

Seagulls are suposed to be bomb proof. My GF has a IWC with ST2555 for over 2 years and it still runs perfect. It runs 1 min fast every 2 weeks!!!

I got a 569 with ST2555 and bought an extra movement so I could use the original rotor and remove the deco plates. Oiled the rotor bearing and it's nice and silent now and it's way more stable without the elevated rotor

I'm wearing a KW Seagull 499 right now! Got ST2555s in my 438, 351, 312, 499 and 505 and no problems with any of them to date. Balance wheel is n a slightly better position than the decorated 7750s too, I'd always go for a Seagull when there's an option. Cheaper and just as good if not better...
