Is the SA3120 clone movement not reliable?

Looking to buy a 15703 AP Diver rep from ZF, but I'm reading some bad things about the fragility/reliability of the SA3120 clone movement. Should I get the ZF rep with the A2824 instead (assuming that version of the rep is still available)???

3120 is fine although be gentle with pulling the crown out, the sliding pinion is known to be weak as hell.

Imho for 15703 i would take 2824 or 2836.... especially since the 3120 clone doesn't even have instant date jump

If 3120 is also being used for 15710 reps as well, then I had an issue with it and I sent it back to ZF to get it fixed once lol. But since after it was fixed there's been no more issues. Just be careful to not set time backwards and just overall be very slow and gentle with it.

Is ZF still offering it with A2824? I know some dealers still have it listed, but they often leave old models on their sites.

Nope i think only m2m

Honestly if you're flexible I think the 15720 with the 4380 is a better buy

One of the benefits of a closed case back, like on the 15703, is you can (and IMO should) pick a movement for its gen-like performance and reliability. The 2824-2 is a 28,000 movement and the AP3120 is a low beat 21,600 movement.

For my taste and budget, the ideal is grabbing a 15703 with a busted A2824 to be replaced/upgraded with a genuine ETA 2622 movement. The ETA2622 has the same dimensions (26mm x 4.5mm) and stem height (1.8mm) as the A2824-2 and the same beat rate as the AP3120. The only (minor) challenge is the 2824-2 second hand pinion (0.25mm) is a bit larger than the 2622 (0.21mm).

Don’t see a link. But really don’t need to. A watch with a 2824 will accept a 2622. Here’s why.

They share these dimensions:
Diameter = 26mm (25.6mm)
Stem height = 1.8mm

The height of the 2622 is 0.1mm less:
The height of the 2622 is 4.5mm vs 4.6mm for the 2824. Obviously a flatter movement fits in the space of the taller movement.

The hour and minute hands are interchangeable:
The movements have the same diameter for the hour and minute hand pinions.

The 2622 second hand can be fitted to the smaller 2824
As the inner diameter of the tube is a only a hair larger on the 2622 (0.25mm vs 0.21mm), it is easily crimped to hold fast to the 2622 pinion.

But do take note, the date indicator (date disc/wheel/whatever) are not interchangeable but you can buy/make an overlay for accurate font and position.
