Is it true?

Hi guys,

Just a quick question before placing my other order. I'm buying PAM 243. The website says it's waterproof to 30m.

Is this really reliable? Anybody actually test that before?

I won't dive until that deep, but I definitely will use it for surfing and swimming.

Anyway; what you guys think of PAM243. Honestly, I'm confused of choosing between PAM243 or AP Diver.
Which one will get more compliment?

Currently I'm wearing 111 and satisfied to the max! :)

Always assume it's not. Have it tested and get it waterproofed if necessary when you get it

I would not trust the waterproofing. Some sellers like marvellous offer waterproofing and testing on some watches. I would only trust it then(but would still avoid deep water)

The 243 is very well built, it has two case back gaskets and the fit is really good. The only problem you may have is with the crown gasket, some don't have a tight fit, you can tell that by how the lever snaps into place. If the lever moves to easy you may want to install a thicker gasket.
I discovered that the easiest way to get a thicker gasket at the exact size is to build it yourself, the ones that you find online have a round section, the 243 is flat. Find a nice sheet of flexible and but resistant rubber, I had some high quality rubber sheet of different thicknesses from some bike brackets. Get an empty Parker ballpoint refill, remove the cap and tip, the top is 5mm , tip is 2mm, exact size of the 243 crown gasket, sharpen with a file if needed and die cut a nice gasket out of that rubber sheet. Take the old rubber gasket out, mount the new one and voila.
If all the gaskets are OK I am confident it'll take some swimming with no problems, but just to be sure get yourself a $5 watch grease tube, take the caseback off using a sticky ball made out of tape and grease the gasket, it's a really simple procedure, also shove some grease under the crown where the crown gasket is.

Reps have no appropriate Quality Control.
therefore the answer would be:

It is true?
- some times yes , some times not

To assure it you need to get a waterprofing test.

Interesting reply from smokiedabong.Thanks

Seiko, Citizen, Orient are great for diving.
AP, PAM, Rolex, etc, are best for desk diving, meetings, showing off.... especially the gen.
That's just my opinion.

Static depth is actually pretty easy to waterproof against, especially when the pressure builds gradually and allows the seals to move and seat. Activities like swimming and surfing are actually much more difficult to 'waterproof' against as the pressures build very rapidly and can be far higher than those at a static 50m or 100m (thinnk about how your ears feel during a 'wipe-out'!).

If you are 'waterproofing' a watch, all you are really doing is increasing your confidence that it will withstand a certain maximum pressure.

I'd follow the excellent advice above on making a gasket to ensure the crown seals well, however, even after that, I'd take my watch off when going surfing!
