Good question. I really like the 253 and will have to have one at some point. Since Doctorron won't sell or trade me his, I will have to look elsewhere.

or are they all mineral (aka "synthetic sapphire")?

I think Mineral and synthetic sapphire are 2 things. Sapphire Crystals are allways synthetic, cause "naturally" produced sapphire in this size would be priceless!

i hear you, and we keep debating the "synthetic sapphire" versus "sapphire" versus mineral question.

i guess i'm looking for a 253 rep that does not have a easily scratchable and exploding domed crystal (by whatever name :))

You is right to bone, in real world.. but in replica world goes like this

"Synthetic Sapphire" means mineral glass.. mineral glass like in the window of house..

Sapphire? means sapphire..

now, yes, sapphire in watchys is synthetic.. but if you see, when you see, synthetic sapphire

does not mean synthetic sapphire, means mineral glass..

so, in rep world, you want to be right? well then buy synthetic sapphire expecting synthetic sapphire?

You gete mineral glass..

is simple.. terminoloogy.. factual actual.. so to be too much of smart?

LOL - lose you arse!

I don't believe there are any mini-Fiddy cased reps (chrono or non-chrono alike) that have real sapphire crystals.

Klink- Youre explanation makes the most sense regarding crystals and the rep world. I really thought those mini-fidis were sapphire crystals. I'm still personally confused as to which crystals/glass are the ones that break on the 44mm and 47mm PAMs

The domed mineral (a.k.a. "synthetic sapphire") crystals are the ones that break. For Fiddys it seemed to happen more often with the non-0117 cases than with, but it is certainly no guarantee.

I hope this helps, Jay.

Really? I thought it was the sapphires that kept breaking...I ended up buying two fiddy mineral crystals from his as backups incase the sapphire actually broke.

All of the anecdotes I heard were of mineral crystals that got scratched (thus creating a weak spot) then later broke/shattered. I haven't heard of any confirmed cases of 0117-cased Fiddys with real sapphire crystals that broke.

As a non-Fiddy owner, I haven't made certain to read every thread about it, though.

Makes sense about a scratch being a cause for a breaking point as its much more difficult to scratch a sapphire. We'll see I have two spares so I can put up with the shattered crystals up to two times lol.
