If there's one thing I really like about my Acetimer, it's how it looks. How my watches fit the pillows was a whole different matter.
If you're not familiar with the Acetimer watch pillows, this is what one looks like:
It's a two-piece arrangement comprised of a small, softer pillow surrounded by a slip-on sleeve of stiffer material. This allows you to remove the outer sleeve if the pillow is too large for your watch to fit around it. Terrific, except that my bracelets are too big to actually fit the pillows. When on the winder they would flop around as the puck turned, crashing into each other on every rise and fall.
The temporary fix was to simply stuff a bit of tissue between the watch and the pillow. This works but is difficult to hold straight while mounting the watch and destroys the nice look of the timer to boot.
A much better and more long-term solution had to be found. I had considered cutting new pillows from stiff foam blocks as another member here did, but in the end I went with a super-cheap, super-easy option that looks really good.
I started with a roll of tan felt with an adhesive backing. 1" wide would have been great but I only found 1/2" wide rolls at the store. This package cost less than $5 and is the total cost involved.
Through a bit of trial fitting I discovered the optimal length necessary for my watches to fit (sized for 8" wrist). I then cut two equal length strips for each pillow.
It would have worked fine with just one strip down the center but I wanted a more even look, and I think the watches may have had more of a tendency to slip when mounting. I applied the strips side-by-side to achieve the 1" width.
The watches fit very nicely around the pillows now. In the pic you can see the bracelet is actually compressing the pillow a small amount, indicating I could have cut the strips shorter. I prefer the tighter fit as it helps prevent any movement on the winder.
All done! Less than $5 and about 10 minutes worth of work and my watches fit wonderfully and look much better.
