Getting To Know The Place

Hi everyone,
Really happy to be here, first post thread and nice to find a place full of people who love watches as much as I do!

I’ve been thinking lately about how much things like heritage, branding, and price seem to drive the watch world. Sometimes it feels like actual design doesn’t get the attention it deserves. Personally, I’m not into RM or J&Co, but they seem to get a lot of hype. So I wanted to throw out a question:

Imagine you are an alien that just landed on Earth. You're highly advanced (obviously), and your species doesn’t care/understands about brand, logos, celebrities, branding, history, heritatge. There’s no past, only the present. Everything is made perfectly, no flaws, no finishing to compare, no waiting lists, no resale value . Just pure designs.

If you look at Gérald Genta’s 3 integrated bracelet designs (in 20205 re-designed) , which one would you choose based purely on design, and why?

Curious to hear your thoughts!

It's impossible to use the alien analogy because it's impossible to erase those three pieces from our minds.
That said, while the nautilus is quite comfy and the AP exudes a unique strength, the Ingenieur is the one that I find more versatile.
On the other hand, based "purely on design" the AP is a hair ahead. It has a balance that makes it "natural".

The AP
Prefer the slotted screws to the ones on the IWC.
The AP has more sharp angles leading to a more serious industrial look

The other two look more “soft”

The Patek bracelet has the rounded ish polished centre link I don’t like.

The IWC would be in second place

If I were a human alien, I would definitely choose the AP.

But if I were a Klingon, I would be more inclined towards a G-Shock Mudmaster or maybe a good ol´ 47mm Panerai.

As a Vulcan, I would definitely prefer a Nomos Tangente, and as a Ferengi, I would undoubtedly choose a solid gold Daytona with iced-out diamond accents.

If I were Borg, there would be no alternative to the Rolex Submariner. The collective rules!

And if I were one of those ugly slime creatures from the Delta Quadrant, I would be drawn to the design language of Hublot.

As you can see, even aliens have similar differences in taste to us humanoids ;-)

I had trouble with this- and I’m probably being too semantic here- but to me ‘design’ as a term should cover function as well as aesthetics, and I don’t know enough about how they all feel on my wrist- but strictly aesthetically speaking I’d go iwc for bracelet
