If Anyone Bitches about the cost of a PAM (or a good rep), send them this...

The amount of precision engineering required to get it right is amazing. AND that makes it amazing that we have such accurate reps!

If you think that's impresive you should see the technology and amount of precision engineering required to make silicone chips work, and I can buy those for a few cents. Hell even the industrial process for making toilet paper looks impresive. Way overpriced if you ask me

You should watch the AP video. Then get back to me about pricing. Also, before the new barrel movement, Panerai was simply a glorified 6497. I love Panerai, but the simplicity is more of the driving factor for me.

This is like a five year old video from science channel, it has been shared here on many occasions...just search for "how its made panerai" on YouTube, there are many files with same content out there...

BTW, you can see all of these and many more on panerai site here http://www.panerai.com/en/manufacture-panerai-watches

The making of the Blancpain tourbillion was even better to watch.

Also check out Panerai official YouTube channel, they have an ongoing series of short videos of the watches being made.

This video should be stickied.

But still CNC machining and computer aided robotics really don't signify costs.

Not being funny but if you take a gen 005 with a rep, you are getting 90% of the watch down to the fit and finish. I've had the gen and the rep and its soooo hard to tell the difference if they both on the same strap, yet one can be had for £150 and the other is £3500 or there abouts, that's a hell of a difference.

Now I'm not arguing that the gen isn't a better watch, made in better conditions with a warranty etc, but is there really a £2350 price difference in the two watches? The short answer is no.

For any panerai watch with a manual eta movement (000,005,111,112,176,177) and I've had a couple of these as a gen I would personally struggle to justify buy gen again as the rep to gen difference is so small compared to the price gap. If I was to
buy a gen panerai it would have to be one of the in house models.
