Ideas on affordable gen Swiss watch

I have a friend approaching 60, worked hard all his life and does not make much money. He would not be into Reps and would probably worry to death about owning one, he is a simple guy.
I would like to buy him an entry level Swiss watch with a budget around £1000, not a Swatch. I would appreciate your thoughts.

Made in Switzerland but an English brand, Christopher Ward are pretty nice looking watches. Gonna make an appointment at their boutique and get myself one

Oris is a good shout. You might not get a brand new one for £1000 but you can pick up a pre owned one for thereabouts. I have an oris 65 diver and I love it

Does not have to be Swiss he wears a beat up Lorus at the moment

A few bucks more you can get one in automatic but if he's not a watch guy quartz would be the way to go

This is the same as mine, but have the rivet bracelet version, very comfortable, one of the most comfortable iv worn

Not to repeat what others have said but oris (their jazz line was dressy and fun), Eterna, some older omegas, even a classic Tudor can all be had for under $1000.

Another brand that doesn’t the credit due is Baume et Mercier. Lovely watches and the prices are attractive.
