This is the most honest and detailed description of a watch I've ever seen!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Poljot-Okeah-Ocean-reissue-USSR-3133-chronograph-REPAIR-/170782281339

This is non-runner 2004 Poljot Okeah reissue Russian watch. It’s a limited edition of the Soviet Navy chronograph, issued around 1976. I’m selling it “AS IS†because it needs repair and I don’t have the spares, skills or a trusty watchmaker to send it to for such repair. There’s a full watch history below, along with a list of its current problems(to the best of my knowledge). So let me do this by parts…

Specifications:

Poljot 3133 mechanical chronograph movement (upgraded and improved version of the Swiss Valjoux cal. 7733)

- Solid Steel case

- Domed mineral crystal

- Dimensions are 38mm without crowns (about 45 with both crowns) x 38mm without lugs (45mm lug to lug).

- 19+mm lug width (it’s a bit difficult to measure, it’s more like a very generous 19mm, almost 20mm. I’ve always thought it was 20mm until I bought the bracelet I’m including. Usually, a 20mm leather strap fits it just fine)

- Originally 3 ATM water resist which I can’t vouch for anymore since the case has been opened.

Current condition:

- Not working (see below for details)

- Case and crystal are virtually scratch free, except for a light scuffing on the case between 11 and 12 o’clock, tiny swirls on the case back and a light scratch near the crown at 9 (see pictures)

Watch history:

- Bought second hand from its first owner a couple of years ago.

- Took a looooong time to reach me because of a long voyage around the planet and it was seized by customs for about a month, gods only know in what conditions.

- The date never changed and the chronograph hands (main sweep second hand and minute increments on the subdial at 3 o’clock) didn’t reset to 0.

- The crown at 9 was loose and fell down from my wrist during a meeting. I heard something dropping but only realized what it was later that day. As the meeting wasn’t on my office, I couldn’t retrieve it.

- I managed to get an original Okeah case and replaced that crown. The original case and the reissue one are different. Basically, the original crown has a tube and stem that control the chapter ring. The newer case has the tube on the case itself. I fixed this by Dremeling the tube and basically restoring it to its original format.

- The chapter ring moved very easily and the new crown at 9 threatened to fall out again, so I glued everything in place. Works great for me, except there was a slight marking from the glue on the chapter ring (look at the 9 region on the photos).

- Two months ago I took it to a “watchmaker†(very self-important bloke who deals with Rolexs and Omegas) to see if he could sort out the resetting problem. Not only did he managed to broke a pallet jewel (don’t ask me how, I only noticed when I got home and the watch wasn’t running) as he asked me for an absurd price “just to take a look at itâ€. He did offer me a 15% discount on his new Speedmasters though…

- I have several watches with this movement (a favorite of mine) and several spare parts/movements. Since I don’t know any other watchmaker, don’t trust the above mentioned one and have some experience in dealing with this Russian movements, I repaired it myself. Here’s a list of what has been done:

o Full escapement and pallet fork replaced by brand new parts.

o Date fixed (involved replacing several gears with new ones).

o The stem was stiff and turned out it had something to do with the way the keyless works was set. Full reassemble of the keyless works. Note: the stem comes in the released position.

o Main sweep chrono hand was loose and randomly stopping close to 0 but never there. Chrono hand replaced by a NOS Swiss hand, probably meant for a Valjoux 77xx (came in a zip-bag with several NOS Swiss parts). Its wheel was also replaced with a new one as the original was slightly bent.

o Minute hand was a bit loose too and I replaced the cannon pinion with a new one. Note: as I was packing it, the minute hand came loose again, apparently I didn’t press it all the way in.

o While reassembling everything, I noticed I couldn’t mount the second hand on the subdial at 9. Turns out the mast have been broken when I took the hand off. It’s this pinion I don’t have has a spare and the part that makes it a non-runner.

- The watch was keeping good time and the chronograph was working well (also resetting to 0 every time) after all this interventions. I can’t verify that now since I broke the said pinion and that’s why I’m selling it AS IS!

List of current problems (to the best of my knowledge):

- It needs the pinion that connects the train wheel to the chrono train wheel. It’s the same one that works as the mast for the second hand on the sudial at 9.

- I have the original sweep hand and I think it’s still possible to reuse it after bushing it.

- Chapter ring is fixed in place. I wanted it that way because it moved too easily but I guess you can consider that a problem. I don’t believe this to be reversible!

- Subdials have some scratch markings, apparently caused by the movement of their hands that might have been too tight (see photos).

What comes with the watch:

- Bracelet with all its spare links (it’s a Strapcode Superengineer)

- Extra straps: blue PU Pilot strap and shark grain electric blue Poljot leather strap. One set of sprig-bars included.

- Box that came with the watch

- No papers.

- Original sweep hand (needs bushing)

- The two train wheels missing the pinion.

Well, I guess that’s all I have to say about it. If I’m missing something, please ask before bidding! I’m selling the watch “as is†and I’ve tried my best to give you the most complete information about it that I could. Still, I’m sure I might have missed something…

It’s a classic watch with tons of history! There’s no shipping costs, no reserves, nothing! It goes to the top bidder by the price he thinks it’s fair!

He is the first person on E-BAY that doesn't lie about every single thing about the watch.
