I am afraid I buggered my movement. Help?

I recently purchased a 292 from another member and last night, I decided to open it up to clean up the inside of the crystal. I am afraid that may have turned out to be a big mistake. Everything was going well until I tried to wind it. I did some reading, and my guess is that I unscrewed the crown's screw too far. I'm feeling like I'm in over my head, but is there anything that I can do to fix what I seem to have done? I really don't want to lose this watch for 2 months while I wait for a service - I'm kind of in love with it!

We need some more details here... are you saying the crown unscrewed off the crown stem? The stem itself doesn't not screw into anything on the movement. It is removed and replaced by a small screw on the backside of the movement. this screw is loosened one rotation or a bit more and the stem is pulled out. vice versa push the stem all they way back in and tighten down the screw... once the screw is tightened down, pull on the stem to see if it in fact goes in and out of winding mode and time setting mode. (always pull the stem out when the stem is in the winding mode).

Sorry if it was vague. I'll try to answer this the best I can.

The crown and stem are together and there is no problem there. That small screw on the back of the movement is where I think I messed things up. I unscrewed it probably a full 3 rotations basically until it would not loosen anymore. Once I had the watch reassembled, I went to wind it and it would not wind. It will set the time, but doesn't seem to be engaging anything to wind it. I'll have to check whether it is going between the 2 modes after work and update the thread.

Yup - keyless is buggered. You only need to turn that screw about 1 1/2 turns till the stem just pulls out.

Sorry,
Bob

Thanks for the input. That confirms what I suspected. Now if only I had read up on this BEFORE I jumped in!!! Live and learn...

It's the blessing and the curse of owning reps. We can work on them, but should we? :D If you can't get the stem release screw in correctly you might need to completely disassemble the whole keyless works....or if you're in the U.S. send a note to Katt. I assume he is still around.

I appreciate the offer - a lot, actually. But, just before you posted that, I shored up a fix from someone I've done business with before.
