was looking at vintage watches on ebay and found a fortis marinemaster . looks great , love the dial and looked as a possible bargain
for the story this is a 1970 watch which was reissued in 2002 by fortis using new old spare parts in a limited run of 90 pieces .
which is what they are advertised on ebay and would explain the "as new" look .
found out that they is about 10 of them up for grab on ebay right now . advertised as part of the 90 pieces run ....

even worse .. looking at competed listing , looks like about 50 of them sold in the last 60 days , most from the same sellers . based in UK / germany / austria . all 100 % feedback and apparently reputable vintage watches sellers

there is an excellent article on TZ uk which started from a seller wondering if he might have sold a fake one , respect to the guy ,

even got an answer from fortis who dismissed as a possible stock of NOS being found somewhere.
a few points :
all case back inside engravings looks the be laser etched and not engraved . all got the same date of april 70 ...
some case back got a different markings on the outside : ( marinemaster / stainless marinemaster / waterprooP stainless marine master / or no markings which seems to be correct .. waterproop is the best one by far !!
the waterprooP issue has been highlighted on the TZuk forum ... now on ebay the listing with the waterproop marking have been "vintaged" by either the sellers or the makers which what appears to be a dremmel to erase the P !!
mvt
should be a eta 2783 25 jewels on the 90 pieces re edition .
some comes indeed which what seems to be a genuine eta 2783 , some with a eta 21 jewels ?? and the description in the seller listings is of course original eta 21 jewels ...
so all of those selling for about 300-400£ bit of a decline with some gone recently for £200 ....
shocking is that none of those vintage watches seller can pretend they didnot know about it .... they keep selling those as part of a 90 pieces only run with clearly the wrong mvt , caseback
that is without going into the issue of the bicolor dials ( white and red only , no orange on the diving tables} . and you got to love the lume shots of so called nearly 50 years old hands .
