How to measure your strap length and compensate for thicker straps

Just received my 177 with the standard rubber strap and yes, the strap is really a glaring omission to complete the look.

Question - I think I have a 7" wrist, if I measure closer to my palm, but it quickly becomes 7.75 inches if I move just 1 inch towards my upper arm. The difference is because close to the front we have just skin and bone, and moving up you start to have more flesh.

So would that mean that on average I would say my wrist size is 7.5 inches? How you do measure this?

So I see that the standard rubber strap is 120/75mm. Okay, this rubber strap is almost perfect for my wrist as the buckle sits right at the bottom of wrist, so I know that the 'short side' is correct, the 'long side' looks ok too.

Now I am wanting to order a Heroic18 strap, and I see the standard order is always 135/80. And I have also read somewhere where you do need a longer than standard length as the aftermarket straps are thicker. But maybe from experience you guys can advise me... what is the correct length I should buy for a 5mm strap (well, Heroic18 is 4.2mm) for a 7.5" wrist??

Thank you and I hope this could be a reference for PAM guys in terms of estimating proper lengths. If there is a duplicate thread perhaps someone could also post a link here so it ties together...

I have two Kain Heritage straps and I like them better than Heroic18, here's mine.

I also just received a beautiful custom handmade strap from Crocodile of PrimeStraps, you might want to check his section as well.

From KainHeritage website:

Q: How do I decide on the length of the strap?
A: On top of your personal preference, thinner straps wear "longer" and thicker straps wear "shorter" in general.

We recommend you to select a length longer than your OEM strap to obtain the tail style.

Thickness do affect sizing as follows:
6.0" - 6.5" = 120 x 80 or longer
6.6" - 7.0" = 125 x 80 or longer
7.1" - 7.5" = 130 x 80 or longer
7.6" - 8.0" = 135 x 80 or longer
8.0" - 8.5" = 140 x 85 , 145 x 80mm or longer

We share the same size wrist. I call my wrist 7.25". I ordered a strap from Jason, blueradish, and he suggested 125/75. I believe he's making it at 5mm. I ordered it with 5 holes with the hopes I fit the center but we will see. This is my first custom strap so I had a lot of the same questions and still am unsure of all the answers. Hopefully I receive it in the next week and I can post back.

I forgot to add that my wrist is in the 6.0-6.5 range, and IMO the 130 x 80mm strap is just nice.

Thank you. Let's see. You ordered 125/75 where many standard length is 130/80. I guess the difference is whether the buckle is centred at the bottom of wrist, and whether the amount of long end 'tongue' sticking out after you buckle and tie it down, is too short or too long.

I forgot to add that my wrist is in the 6.0-6.5 range, and IMO the 130 x 80mm strap is just nice.

Looks a tad long as your buckle should be closer to centre of wrist instead of all the way to the side?

Right. The buckle on Lay's rubber strap is dead center on the bottom of my 7.25 wrist. I like it that way. Not everyone does... especially those at a desk all day. Hopefully when my Blue Radish strap comes in will fit the same.

Yeah, mine's more on the side than center, it's more of a personal preference as mentioned earlier.
